Coolant is usually green unless you have a Lexus, theirs is brown. Go figure. Buy your coolant from any parts or hardware store. Be sure to cut it 50/50 with water to optimize its efficiency.

Coolant leak from lower engine area

Coolant could be leaking above that point then trailing down. Check all the hoses and the overflow tank. Or try to follow the trail of coolant up from that point.
If your engine is running hot/overheating you could have bigger issues, check your oil and make sure it isn't creamy colored.
Also, it is a chysler, they are a HUGE pain, make sure you are using DEX cool (orange coolant) if you mixed the green in your car you will want to flush out the system and refill it (when you refill you can use either color but never mix the two, the two colors mixed will get gummy and cause your thermostat to stick, possibly gum up your pump and cause your car to overheat which can wreck your engine)

I have been adding different engine coolant in my 02 VW Cabrio than what it says in the manual What should I do now? Also i can see the coolant dripping out under my car any ideas and or tips to fix?

Mixing different coolant, red vs green can deteriorate seals for coolant. Leak could be because of this or just loose clamp on hose. Should completely drain system including engine block, flush, and refill with oem or equivelant.

Color of Antifreeze/Coolant for 2002 Camry

If there was red antifreeze in there before, adding green product can cause sludging in the water jacket of the engine. They are not compatible. The right type for this engine is the red or orange type.

Have the system drained and flushed a few times, and refill with red type coolant mix.

I looking to see what type of coolant does a 2000 dodge grand caravan take with a 3.3

It just depends what color coolant it has now. If it is green, you can use any color that is green. There are some coolants that mix with anything. It will tell you on the coolant jug. If you have any questions, please contact me. I am here to help. Thank you for choosing FixYa.

What should i do if the coolant in my radiator is brown looking

Being a 1992, If you have never had it flushed I would highly recommend having the cooling system flushed and refilled. It just depends on how severe the coolant strength and color is. New coolant is pink or orange in color and you may have one of these installed in your engine or mixed with the old green coolant and the color will be brownish. If thats the case I would still recommend getting it flushed the 2 different coolants don't mix well and cause it to gel in heater cores and small passages.

Is there a specific type of engine coolant for my 2005 grand prix? My mechanic says my coolant needs to be flushed and replaced with the proper type of coolant. There is no rust in my coolant.

Hello restrada.

Your Pontiac original specification calls for Dexcool coolant.
This is an orange colored fluid.
If the green regular type has been added the system should be flushed and refilled with Dexcool.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I need to know what type of coolant to use in my 2006 Dodge Stratus?

Always use green if it has anything else in it drain it and refill with green
all other colors where originally designed to be better than the green but in actually they are worse
they break down sooner, leave deposits and gum up water passages
ask any mechanic that had a motor apart that runs that coolant and he/she will tell you the same

There should be a fill level mark and yes you need to put in immediately, run the car until it reaches operating temp, then see where the level is after you shut it off.

The water/coolant light comes on constantly. and i'm constantly refilling it.

To start with you will need to find the leak if there is one. With the engine running at full temperature, the radiator full and the cap on tight look in the engine compartment for leaks. The fluid will be green in color. If there is no leak you will need to have the car diagnosed by a shop.

What type of coolent for 1999 chevy astro

Hello! Your van most likely still has the coolant that was in it from the factory - which would be DexCool. If you can see it in the coolant overflow, and it is orange-ish in color - it's DexCool (or possibly a DexCool-friendly brand). I would suggest a full, and thorough coolant system flush - and then refill with the green stuff. If your van does have DexCool - you CAN NOT mix it with anything that does not implicitly state that is compatible. If you do - it will harden and congeal and ruin your coolant system - and perhaps even your engine.

Hope this helps!
