Transmission tech says it may need a new transmission, or it could be the accumulator. I have heard several people having same or simular problems. what is your opinion?

Wife says it is starting to slip a little. Transmission Tech said it was not going into second and fourth. He said he thought accumulator may be bad or it the transmission is shot.

When you accelerate from a stop, what does it do? Medium throttle does it shift into the next gears at the right rpm's? You should see rpm's climb and then drop each time it shifts.

Hello again. If the trans is starting to slip, It would be wise to consider a rebuild. If the wife says she notices it, then it's your call. You've had it serviced with no benefit so get some piece of mind. Out of curiosity, how many miles has the vehicle? Good Luck. Do it.

Trans slips replaced still slips

  • check your "Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor" ECTS, make sure all your connections on the transmission are secured. I would try a bottle of Seafoam, or some Transmission cleaner (as a last resort), or some LubeGard from your auto parts store.
  • There like several types of it, check the website Lubegard.com for the specifices on which one to use. I've heard Transmission guys, swear by this stuff, that it will fix a lot of problems.
But I wouldn't try it on a CVT transmission, or any kind of transmission that has a CVT belt drive system.

I drive a 1991 honda civic hatchbach and the 2nd gear comes off everytime I am not steping on the gas pedal. 1-Do I need a new transmission. 2- Can I do myself if i could find a used transmission from juck...

I would check the tcm first Transmission Controll Module. Its under the passenger side carpet just under the where you would put your feet. These where a big issue in those you'll need a 10mm deep socket to remove the bracket. The cost between 1 and 2 hunderd. I just replaced one in a friends car that was haveing simular problems if the TCM checks out check the sillanoids there is one for each gear. then if there good replace it but a educated guess the TCM shoul clear you right up!!

I have a 99 Ram 1500. I replaced the transmission @ 125k with a remanufactured. This one has 80k mi.. When cold it does not shift up or downshift smoothly. It hesitates 5-6 seconds in a "slipping"...

Try to have the transmission flushed and refilled with new fluid every 30,000 mi. of which this is probably the first fluid change for a while.

If that doesn't solve the problem, another transmission may be the answer, except it may have problems, too.

In my experience, having the transmission rebuilt is better than using a used one.

I have a 4WD dodge durango slt plus 4.7 and I've been told that the transmission solenoid needs to be repleace. where to find the part and cheap

It depends on which Solenoid it is. If I remember correctly there are 5 in 4WD transmission any one of which might have gone bad. Pricing varies depending on which one you are replacing. When you remove the pan you should see 2 to 3 of them right away. Removing the cover plate should expose the remaining ones. This is a job best left to a transmission specialist unless they have told you exactly which solenoid needs replaced and that has been determined by computer diagnostics.

Nissan sentra 1999, car starting but gear are not working so not moving fwd or rev.

This sounds like a transmission problem. I am haveing a simular problem. Shifts to drive, but is slow to catch and if you apply gas before engage it lurches forward. I am having the transmission replaced with a used one with less miles.

1998 Honda Accord transmission problem

This transmission have shift solenoids that are mounted on the outside in my personal experience I have rectified shift problem with these transmissions by simply change a solenoid or two. My recommendation is to put this vehicle on a code scanner and find out what is at fault first. If its a solenoid just replace, they are a dealer only part and that should take care of your problem. Good Luck and thanks for using FIX YA

Transmission trouble

Transmission model is a 4R70W,totally electronic,no vacuum to the trans.A common failure on that transmission is the 1-2 accumulator springs...they break, causing a harsh 1-2 upshift. An accumulator is a mechanical/hydraulic assembly also called an accumulator piston. It is made from steel with rubber lip seals bonded to the steel. The accumulator piston takes a certain portion of the hydraiulic fluid produced when the 1-2 upshift happens, and strokes up and down with springs providing resistance. It acts as a hydraulic shock absorber for the 1-2 upshift, providing cushion. When the springs break,it no longer provides shock absorption, hence the harsh upshift. It is located just inside the trans pan,on the passenger side front of the case.It is retained in the case with a cover and a round snap ring about 2" in diameter.A new piston and springs can be purchased from a transmission repair shop,or better yet, have them check the assembly for broken springs.Good luck
