1996 cheve lumina . gas pump, when I turn the key on I get a voltage reading at the gas pump for only 2 or 3 seconds, this is with the gas pump disconnected. could the problem be in the ignition switch?
When the key is turned to ignition there is a "Prime" mode that the computer rnus. the pump will only run for a few short seconds. If you crank the engine you should get power to fuel pump the entire time you crank the engine.

It is normal to have voltage at the gas pump when you first turn the key on. The pump has to run a few seconds to provide fuel to the engine to start.

I'm not getting gas from my fuel pump, the car wont start. I removed the gas tank and took out the fuel pump. put in a new pump, same problem. as I said the voltage reading at the fuelpump is there when I first turn the key but go away imminently so the fuel pump doesn't run.
