Put the tranny in neutral then engage 4-whell drive unless you have shift on the fly .

Where is the speed sensor located on my 2008 Wrangler x 3.8 5-speed manual trans?

why? got DTC errors? please post them. just curious , me too.
5speed stick, there is no such transmission here. ok JK08 ,usa.
4wd?

mine is 6 speed stick, the 5speed option is the automatic.
6sp is DEH trans.or NSG 370
with NV241 transfer case.
my wild guess is its really a 6 speed manual, with 4wd.
am I correct>?
and is USA, not an Export.
my fsm does not cover, 6 speed VSS, oops.
i wonder if the VSS on the 6peed, uses speed from the ABS.
the automatic vss is on the left side of the tranny case. and input speed and engine rpm speed. but that is A/T.

M/T as your post clearly states is another matter.
the parts list for the 370 box shows no sensors at all ,just 1 reverse switch, then i look at the car 241 transfer case then the parts list.
it too , dont have a sensor. only , 4wd switch and is not a speed sensor.
so that leaves 3 more,
front axle, no.
rear axle ,no (only a lock up switch option)
leaving what, ABS.
must be the genius at JEEP said, one day, well gee abs knows speed, why not just get that for free on all 4speeds.

the A/T needs the sensors to shift right, but not any manual ever.

The electric drawings for jeep jk08 show no speed sensors at all on the M/T. (dedicated to forward speed via the transmission side)

see here a nice JK08 full parts list in PDF.

How do i replace a clutch &preasure platewith throw out bearing on a 1987jeep. wrangler yj

why? state symptoms first then ask questions.
after all , some bark up wrong tree?

4 liter?
2wd or 4wd?
the FSm book cover this.
it like 50 steps.

  • battery neg lug off..
  • drain xfr case then transmission. 4wd guessing, i am
  • drop drive shafts.
  • drop drop cross members (i did a 88 last jeep done)
  • put tranny jack in place. below trans.
  • all cables and hoses, connnectors off trans and transfer case,(obvious) OFF
  • remove bell bolts bottom and top last. (avoid cantilevering trans off bottom bolts )
  • slide trans back,
  • end story, as the remainder is abvious back in.

is this your first, trans?
if yes, youtube 100s of others first, then ask questions.

my 88 had a stinking coax slave cylinder deep inside, sux.

I have a 89 jeep wrangler with a 2.5 engine and ax-5 trans. it is knocking in all gears but 4th.

may want to do an oil change/filter on trans-then neccisary ajustments from a repair manual--if still persist then rebuild may be in order--trans can last 250 thou miles but heat is the killer

89 wrangler do I need a new transfer case?

Sounds a lot like a linkage adjustment problem. Check transfer case linkage and adjust as necessary to get proper engagement. If you can't move lever on case, there may be an internal problem, but I've found that a good percentage of problems are with the linkage itself.
Check this out before getting too worried about unit. Also... make sure lube in case is in good condition and properly filled.

Jeep 4wd auto trans

Place the trans in nuetral then put the transfer case in 2HI.
when you drive on the road always have the transfer case in 2HI UNLESS you have a transfer case that has an alltime 4WD option
