Could also be your throttle linkage. That's if it's fuel injected. It would not hurt to check that area out. Problem should be cheap, just finding it will be the annoying part. That's why I'd check everything to logically determine your issue. That way you can account for the other components.

2002 Chrysler Sebring dies at low rpm and will not crank over

Your throttle body is probably dirty,The throttle body has a hose from the air filter housing attached to it,the throttle body is attached to the intake phlenum.Take the hose off(its rubber with a clamp on it).Do this with a cold engine, NOT RUNNING ! spray some carburetor cleaner inside the venturi and scrub it with a toothbrush,on the side of the throttle body there is a place where a cable goes into, twist the direction of cable to open the throttle plate(inside the throttle body),and continue to clean. Now put it all back together. What happens over a period of time is the Throttle body gets clogged with carbon and cannot breath at idle, the throttle plate when close(at idle)has a very small air gap and cant breath when dirty. If this does not cure your problem, then you will need to consider having your ais motor check.ais= automatic idle speed motor. For this you will have to take the throttle body off to replace it and the screws have been installed with locktight and are tricky to get out.Hope this helps,I did not know what year or make of car, but its a common problem since the fuel injectors took the place of the carburetors.
  • ** Be careful that any cleaners used are for Fuel Injected systems and are O2 sensor safe. Some Carburator Cleaners can damage FI components.**
  • Spraying a throttle body spray cleaner, such as one sold by STP, to clean the throttle body, then starting up and revving the engine, may be enough to dislodge the carbon deposits and material blocking the airway.

1993 2.4 4cyl. pickup starts but dies, replaced fuel pump and filter, has fuel inj.

spray some carb cleaner into the throttle body intake, i bet when you take the air feed hose off the top that it is gunked up, this needs to be clean at all times, really spray it everywhere inside the throttle body & turn the "Butterfly" over & pray both sides of it, then start your car, if it continues to die then it most likelt is a problem with the O2 sensors.

My 2002 toyota avalon idling low..when I remove my foot from the brake my car shuts down

i would start by cleaning the throttle body...there is a hole in the bottom of the throttle that you can fill up with some throttle body cleaner and do this a couple of times....what you are doing is trying to clean the idle control valve that is mounted to the bottom of the throttle body....the idle control valve is what is causing this problem and over a period of time it will get carbon built up on it and cause it to stick and either have a low idle and die or a high idle that will not come down......to help you locate the idle control valve it has one electrical connector.two small coolant hoses.and one vac. hose going to it and is located on the bottom of the throttle body and sometimes you can take a 3/8 extension about 2 ft long and tap on the idle control valve to unstick it but it probably want last to long.....try to clean it first and tap on it if the idle still isnt doing right and if it keeps on acting up you will need to replace it.......this is a common problem....if you need more info let me know and i hope this will help you....also if you could let me and fixya know if i was able to help you in any way......thanks and good luck.....have a blessed day......

The original poster's solution is the cheap and easy way to handle this problem of low engine RPM causing stalls. Try it first, it is a fast fix, and it worked for me, causing my engine RPM to go up above the stalling level when my car was idling at a stop sign or red light.

1994 gmc pickup- starts but when you put it in gear it dies, give it gas it will run but not good

It sound like your idle air control (IAC) valve is dirty and the fuel injectors. Try cleaning the throttle body and IAC with throttle body cleaner, if it's really bad you may have to use two cans of throttle body cleaner to make sure you have all of the carbon and varnish cleaned out. If this does not help, then there is a good chance that the IAC has gone bad and needs to be replaced but also check the wire harness to the IAC and TPS on the throttle body. Good luck and hope this helps and it would not hurt to replace the fuel filter also.

My 2000 lexus es 300 idles between 2000rpms & 3500rmps when you start it, on some days it idles low at the point it wants to turn off but give it gas for about a minute and it kicks into 1000rmps which...

I also have a 2000 ES300 and I had the same problem where it would idle so low to the point of stalling and sometimes it would. Its not the throttle body that is causing the problem its the idle air control valve attached to the front bottom of the throttle body against the firewall thats the problem. After so many miles it becomes dirty and clogged. Only seems to be an issue on 2000 and 2001 vehicles with the Twin Throttle body. To fix remove the rubber throttle body hose closest to the firewall( if standing facing the driver side fender its the throttle body on the right hand side) once you remove the hose you'll see a hole in the bottom of the front part of the throttle body. Obtain a can of throttle body/air intake cleaner and using the straw that comes with the can insert into the hole(you can use force, you'll feel the straw flex around a bend in the hole) and generously spray into hole repeatedly. I recommend using an air duster and straw inserting in hole to blow out excess dirty fluid in between and than spraying cleaner again into hole moving straw in and out going deep as you can go with the straw. (normally about an inch or so) After your finished leave the last dose of fluid in the hole to flush through when you start the car.Rconnect hose, tighten screw clamp, start car, and go drive for a mile or so.I had to use about 1/4 of the can to clean. If you notice the problem return repeat the procedure. I had to do this about twice before the problem stopped reoccurring. This will NOT damage anything in your car. If the car wont start due to hydro-lock, DON'T panic. Just keep trying to start car pumping gas it WILL start and wont damage car. You might notice fumes and/or smoke coming from the tail pipe as well. This is also normal and will only last a few minutes or so depending on how dirty it was to begin with. If you like you can also use some Sea Foam Deep Creep. The product will be double to triple the price of the throttle body cleaner though.

You have a dirty throttle body. It needs to be cleaned real good with carb cleaner. Pull off the air tube and look inside the throttle plate area. If it is black and dirty, this is def your issue.

The throttle body needs cleaning. It has some carbon build up, and when the battery went dead the computer lost its learned values, one of which is base throttle position. Now its reset back to factory specs, not accounting for a dirty throttle body. Seen it a million times
