I will try to help. Autozone and Oreillys will scan the computer for free. The computer stores trouble codes so even if it is not showing a code now does not mean a scan will not help you.
The ABS can also be scanned if they have the equipment or you will need dealer equipment. The ABS usually tells the truth. You can have thin pads or a stuck caliper and somehow it knows. Some Fords have Emergency brakes which are behind the rear rotors and they are often missed by repair shops.

The starting issue can be related to the Radio if they share a fuse with the ignition. There are fusible links I believe under the battery area and from there you go to the relays under the hood for ignition. Autozone should be able to show you pictures to help or they sell shop manuals in the store.

The radio sounds like a source of some of the problems. Leave it off and then try to fuse it again. You may get something else to work then.

Check the ignition and see if you have spark or not. If not then check Ignition Relay or fusible link powering the relay. If you have spark, then do you have fuel?

There is an Inertia switch in the rear area of the cargo area probably behind a side panel. There is a switch with a button which you push and hold for 2 seconds.

Lastly, if you have keyless entry or a keypad, use the keypad to enter the security code. Your vehicle may think you were trying to steal it and killed the fuel or ignition.

Sorry about your luck, go with the easiest things first like the security code and verifying spark. If you can get a scanner it may shorten your repairs.

Check engine light came on a couple of days ago. I keep up with general maintenance. The car also has 160,000 miles on it it is a standard, 4.0 v6 efi. overhead valve.

MIL light comes on for many many reasons, you need to scann the ECU for codes. Any parts place can help you scann for free.

Abs light on

It's likeley that a wheel speed sensor is bad, but to really find out it will be necessary to utilize an OBD-II ABS Brake Scan Tool such one made by Actron which covers 1996 through about 2005 year models of most American makes and models.

This tool will tell you in English what is wrong with the ABS brake system, or at least point to symptoms which can lead to a solution.

Does the jerking feel like a fish bite ( especially when pulling a hill?) if so it may need plugs and wires

if you have one bad plug wire the problem seems to smooth out at higher speeds

1994 ford explorer

The first thing you need to fix is the fact that it will not go into park. I think the shift lever is maladjusted. There should be a way to adjust it near the transmission. Get this dealt with because I am thinking it could be a simple problem. If after you get it adjusted, it still does not immediately kick in to drive, then I think you have a serious tranny problem. You did not say how many miles were on the car, but if it has high miles (more than 100,000) and it has not ever been rebuilt, then it will probably need to be. The trannys in these Explorers were notoriously bad.

Rear end roar

I have heard of the 8.8 rear ends premeturely wearing out. Did you buy this car new or used? If you bought it used, you never know how the previous owner drove the car. Remove the rear cover and inspect the oil and gears inside. If the oil smells burnt, the rear end is most likely junk.
