Question about Kia Sportage

RE: 1998 Kia Sportage: I believe it is a fuel problem. I have changed the relays and am about to replace the fuel filter. Is there a way to tell if it's the fuel pump itself?

Hook a fuel pressure test guage up to it and if it is below 50psi, then you may have a faulty fuel pump. You will need to hook guage up to inlet side of fuel filter to test. You can also test line pressure by connecting to fuelrail service port the spec for pressure there is 34psi with vacuum connected to regulator and 42psi with it disconnected.

Have you checked the fuel pump relay to see if it is sending power to the pump ? The computer grounds the relay when the computer "sees" oil pressure or engine RPM.

1998 kia sportage fuel pump has been replaced by owner, but still will not start. i ckeck the fuse it is not getting power at the fuse near the drivers side panel. also i think some sort of rodent chewed...

If there is fuel in the gas tank, I would remove the bolts holding the upper section of the timing belt cover and pry it back carefully to look for a stretched, broken or damaged belt. If it looks good and snug on the pulleys, then I would replace the fuel pump relay and the main relay and check the fuel pump connectors are properly connected and for a good ground wire and make sure the screw is tightened securely to a good, clean surface that is properly grounding the fuel pump and replace the fuel filter if it was not done with the pump

How do you replace the fuel filter on a 1998 kia sportage

push line in towards filter then press ******* the tabs in connection ( and then a little harder) then pull line back, if you use pliers you will probably damage line so be careful.
