Why does my 2000 vw passat v6 lurch when I take my foot off the accelerator and coast?

Hi. Please get the engine and gearbox mounts checked. This can cause a lurch type feel when they have excessive movement in them.

I have a 99 VW Passat 1.8 and a few days ago and I left my light on over night. Got a jump but the guy reversed the lead on the jumper cables. Immediately afterwards I found that the car no longer goes...

auto or manual?
Either way you need the box repairing or replacing, which ever is cheapest. Gearboxes are not for amateurs and VW are known for gearbox issues.
the battery thing is likely to be coincidental

My 2003 VW passat shakes and smells like burning oil while idle, but the temp gauge is fine. It also feels like it has to jump out of first gear while accelerating from a stop. Any ideas?

Hello,

Check the backpressure in the engine ( remove the oil fill cap when engine is running ). You should feel only a light airflow in and out of the filler cap hole. If there is really pressure, your piston rings are worn out. Rebuild the engine.
Check the compression on each cylinder and the state of the spark plugs.

2003 automatic VW Passat not changing gears right

The trannys on the vw's are weird, they actually have a brain which tells the tranny what to do, when to switch gears under the driving conditions etc. Is thair a check engine light on? when is the last time you had a tranny service done on it? Also, it sounds even weirder, but is your alternator ok, is it putting out the proper volts to the battery? the alternator not charging the system can lead to alot of weird acting issues.

Hi,
Was this work done by a VW equipped garage? It does sound like the cambelt timing is out. You haven't said whether it is a petrol or diesel engine, but my first suggestion is to get the fault codes - aka Diagnostic Trouble Codes / DTC's - read using the onboard diagnostic system. This likely won't be free unless you do it yourself (see my other solutions) but it will help you to avoid replacing things that don't need replacing and get to the source of the trouble as quickly as cheaply as possible.

Hope this helps a bit. D.
