SOURCE: 89 Camaro starting problems

Sounds like you need a Heat shield for your Starter. You will need to get to the Starter and look to see if there is a Thin piece of Sheet metal Mounted around the Starter on the Engine Side. If not, Go to any Auto Parts Store and ask about Heat shields and Give them your Make and Model. This was a Common Problem on Older cars and Customs for Many years. The starter is Absorbing Heat from the Motor and Freezing up. The Heat Shield will help to Stop this Problem.

Pu t in new coil and distrubtor cap and rotor put in new electronic module not firing wont start

No spark at the spark plug? It may be the pick-up coil inside the distributor. This is the sensor that tells the computer the engine's crank position.
If the ignition switch is good, you should have power at the coil's + terminal when key is on. You might check for that.

Replaced water pump on 1994 3.4L camaro, put wires back on coil and can't get my car to start. it turns but wont start, what do i do? is the wire formation wrong???

double check ignition wire placement. Make sure the coil didn't get disconnected somehow. Most likely you have the plug wires jacked up.

What can cause a 89 camaro not to start.

When you got the new starter did it come with a new solenoid or did you reuse the old one? If you used the old one, replace it. If there is a new one on the starter, then double check your connections on the starter. Clean up the terminal ends with emery cloth ,put them back on and make sure they are tight. Be careful that you don't overtighten the small bolt, it breaks easy. Use a lock washer on it and make sure it is snug. Clean the cable ends at the battery and make sure they are tight, and the ground that goes to the engine,at the engine. If there was a pain in the --- bolt on the front of your starter that connected the starter to an engine bracket , put it back on, it is a ground for your starter. If it won't start after you clean everything up then use a screwdriver or something like that to ground your starter case to the frame. If it starts then, put a ground cable the same thickness as your battery cable on that front stud on your starter and run it to the frame. That should make it start regularly. There is a possibilty that your fusible links are bad, but because it clicks I think they are probably okay. As a last resort replace them if none of the above works. They are two big pieces of rubber on your wire harness at the starter. Just cut them out and splice the wires back together. This would be a last resort if everything else fails, but it should start before you get that far. It sounds to me like it just isn't getting quite enough juice and the first couple of things should solve that problem. Hope this helps.
