You have short in your wiring harnesses, check the coating on the wires to ensure that there is no bare wires arcing on the frame somewhere.
This may take awhile to find the source of your problem.
Have you check the wire harness plugs at the rear of the vehicle yet? check or replace these first, rust or corrosion may be obstructing the continuity there for a short occurs . Check all ground leads to the frame as well , clean and replace the rusty screws, lubricate all wires and plugs with Vaseline this will ensure that the components stay rust free.

The light problem is easy, it's a bad earth connection. the fact that the number plate lights go out, and I assume the dash lights stay on, tells me that the earth connection is corroded and just needs to be cleaned with emery paper and re-attached. cover with some vasaline or light grease to stop it re-rusting. If this doesn't solve the backup lights then the switch on the gearbox may be at fault.
As for the gear shift, well that could be low transmission fluid, incorrect selecter cable adjustment or engine management system fault.

Back up lights not working

Assuming it has automatic, 10A fuse 29 in the smart junction box supplies power to the reverse lamps relay. If the fuse is OK, the relay could have failed. Fuse 3 in the smart junction box may be open, causing the license plate lights to be off.

2007 tail light fuse location honda crv

I had this problem with my 2007 Honda CRV -- all the lights worked EXCEPT the tail/running lights and the license plate light. The other tail lights worked -- brake, reverse, indicators, and hazards. Front headlights also worked, but when the headlights went on the back tail lights did not (not to safe for driving at night!!)
The fuse was #15 in the interior fuse box (under the dash driver side) with the label "small exterior lights" ( also check fuse #19 labeled "small lights main"). The cause of my problem, I believe, is a bad or lose wire in my license plate light.

Location of fuse box for license plate light on a 1998 chevy cargo van

The license plate bulb is fed off the same fuse as the parking lights/tail lights. If those a working than the fuse is good. Check the bulb. If its good check for power to the bulb and for a good ground. I think this has The license in the door? If so check the wiring in the door harness in between the door and the body. It is possible that there is a broken wire in that harness. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Where is reverse light and license plate light fusee located. how do i change reverse light

The back up lights is fuse S14, starting with 1 on the left of the fuseblock.
License light is on fuse S3.
Both are supposed to be 10 amp.

Back up lights and license plate light doesn't work.

Reverse lights are activated by a small switch on the transmission. Usually located on the passenger side of the vehicle with a small rubber cap over the switch, Your plate light bulbs are probably in need of replacement, and have nothing to do with the reverse lights.

1993 Ford Escort 4-door: Back-up and license plate lights are out. All fuses checked = okay. All bulbs ohmed out/visual = okay. All other lights are functioning properly (parking, brake, turn, headlight,...

the back-up lights would probably be a bad reverse switch at that point. I'm not sure what could be causing the plate lights if its not fuses or bulbs and all the others are working. I would highly recommend checking your bulbs one more time and look to see if the filaments are smooth or pitted. if they are pitted but otherwise appear to be ok they are in fact burnt out. I have even seen bulbs n that condition ohm out ok but still not work.

1996 ford escort has no dash or parking lights.

tracing short circuits can be tricky you need a good electrical knowledge and a bit of luck.what items are not working when the fuse has blown? concentrate on these items first follow the wiring back from these loads looking for chafed wires . if you cant see anything put in a fuse and switch the affected loads on one at a time until the fuse blows when this happens youll know which circuit to concentrate on.

Reverse lights and license plate light dont work

Try link below, may point you in right direction, but you'll have to scroll down & find what you need. Otherwise I'd start from bumper with test light & work my way back toward front harness, after all fuses, plugs etc been checked.
