Question about 1999 Chevrolet Astro

After sitting a day or two unused the v6 will not start in my van

After sitting a day or two unused the v6 will not start in my 1999 Chevy Astro van fuel pump runs, dash lights up with test for trouble lights battery turns the engine over rapidly enough to start the engine. Head light burn brightly, horn works and accesory plugs work for cell phone charger in the cabin. Dome lights are in override off and stay that way. Haven't been able to locate a burned out fuse yet if there is one. Engine looses coolant about every two days of driving, have to replace with approx. 1/2 gal at that time. Can not see a leak anywhere for the coolant.
Also the "service engine soon" light is locked "on" and will not go off, had it checked with a machine for state inspection and No Trouble Exist put on sticker.

Fuel filter clogged maybe! and the coolant loss maybe as simple as a leaky hose or bad radiator...worse case scenario is a cracked block. look at you engine oil....... does it look milky or bubbly? the coolant is probably going out the exhaust and that's why you don't see a leak.

You may possibly have a bad head gasket filling the cylinders with coolant causing a no start,,,,if you see no leaks externally, check the exhuast smoke when it does run for white smoke and coolant smell out the tail pipe,,,,could also do a cooling system oressure check and maybe then youll see a leak,,,check oil for signs of coolant in it,,

1999 Chevy Astro van will not start after sitting day of rain

Have the resistance checked on your ignition wires! When it's wet, the wires break down or don't allow enough voltage to get through to the plugs. Therefore the spark is weak & the van won't start. You may have to change them. Good luck!

You should have a 4l60E in your astro van. Which is electrically controlled, so no vacuum modulator. However, to address the ventilation selector not working... look for a vacuum line exiting the firewall and going to the passenger rear of the intake manifold. You will likely find it broken or disconnected there.

1997 chevy astro van has poor starting problems after it sits all

hello ralph...check the coolant temp sensor. It acts as a choke to richen fuel mixture when cold. If it doesn't work correctly, hard starting will occur. Once engine reaches operating temp, the problem is usually non-existent. also....
Worn spark plugs.
Fouled spark plugs.
Worn distributor cap and rotor.
Old ignition wires.
Low engine coolant level.
Faulty MAP sensor...any of these will effect cold starting....

Good luck...i hope this helps.
