Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck

4 Answers

2001 dodge 2500 diesel turns over but won't start as soon as weather gets to about 5 degs celsius. Works fine as long as warm out. Once running all is good,no smoke, good mileage? If you give it one little sniff of either it fires right up. There is a new lift pump on it now,no leaks that i can find. Fuel mileage is still good, just doesn't want to start when it gets cold out.

Your truck has NO glow plugs , but it DOES have a grid heater in the intake manifold. The heater is more than likley the issue. Check you power distribution box on the drivers inner fender , look for blown fuse or possiblely a bad relay. They are marked under the box cover.

Does it have glow plugs? Is there a malfunction with the glow plug system?
Diesel engines have no ignition source aside from the extreme temperature caused by their ultra-high compression. When the engine is cold, this combustion will require a helping hand, which is administered by the use of glow plugs, which help begin the combustion until the engine reaches an acceptable temperature range.

Hope this helps,
matt

Where are the glow plug relays located on a 2001 dodge 2500 diesel cummings motor

There arent any glow plugs, there is an intake heater in the manifold, there are 2 relays under driver side battery that warms the heater (when wait to start light is on) for starting.

Well, Hate to say this to you but your Cummins 24v turbo diesel does not have glow plugs. The fuel temperature necessary for proper ignition is heated by an element inside your fuel filter housing.

P2509- intermittent power pcm/ecm or error data lost. Usually a simple power issue. Have the batteries load tested, and clean the connections. Strange things like this start to happen when one or both of the batteries just start to get weak

2002 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel won't really accelerate unitl its warm

Man you have a lot of things to check out. You really need to start out by getting a computer scan done on your truck. Diesels are not what they use to be, and there are to many things to look at. My initial thoughts are that you have a bad injector, but if you are not mechanicaly skilled this is not a job for you. Please save your self the head ache and get the scan done by a reputable dealer or mechanic not the cheapo parts store. It could be anything from a dirty filter or line to a injector.

If you get the scan done and then its something you can do your self, go for it. I have told my friends if they want to buy a diesel, which I am not against at all. If they want me to work on them they have to buy the scanning tool for it because finding the problem takes for ever.

Once you get the scan done then let me know and I can help you more.

all i can tell you is that as long as you dont go below 4 psi you should not starve injection pump, this is a minimum psi though., 10-13 psi is average on my 2002 at service port.
