I have never seen the key ID chip fail. If its part of the anti-theft system then the theft light (little car with a pad lock next to it) will be flashing fast when you try to start it. If that is the case then some other part of the PATS system is more likely to blame, probably the module. Your problem sounds more like a wiring issue. On the 97 through 01 or 02 Taurus there was a bad wiring design. If you take your driver's front wheel off, remove the splash shield in the wheel well and look at the back top of the well there is an area where a bunch of wires run through a plastic race and then turn up. The wire bundle likes to rub through at the end of that race and your symptom sounds like the early stages of that. Look there, repair any damaged wires, and wrap the whole thing in a few layers of electrical tape to keep them from chafing through.

Starts and runs about three seconds then dies ignition must be shut off for car to restart then runs three seconds and dies again.

Sometimes this can be caused if you are not using a "chip key" if one is required by your car. If you had a copy of your key made and it was not programmed the car would disable itself after three seconds of attempting to drive the car without the proper key (antitheft feature). If that's the case a properly programmed key will automatically work and no reset is normally required.
In an extremely rare case a programmed chip key can fail and you will get the same symptoms.

2003 nissan sentra gxe cranks then dies everytime wont stay running what is wrong

If the car has a chip key, the ignition may not recognize the key. Try another key or read the trouble code and the chip reader may not be working.

either the chip in the key is bad (try the other key) or the receiver on the back of the ignition is bad. If both keys dont work there is nothing you can do but have it towed to the dealer. They have to replace and reprogram the unit and the keys! I am sorry.

Car starts up for 1 or 2 seconds and dies

This happens when the car requires a key with a chip to keep running. You may have a key without a chip which only allows you access to the interior or the trunk. Check with dealer to see if your car requires a chip key to keep your car running.

I'm having a problem with a 2005 grand caravan...the question is....can your car ever die from a problem with your passkey.....the reason I ask is that the last few mornings when I started the car it...

Yes your car can stop running (die) if the passkey does not match. Sounds like there may be an issue with the sensor in the key module. Do you receive any DTS's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), i.e. is your check engine light on possibly? Have you tried any other keys you have that have a chip in them? Your van may need to be reset or reprogrammed..

Car has been running fine. Parked and locked from the inside, not with remote. Few hours later unlocked with remote and car will not start, not even a click. Have checked all connections, wires, fuses...

I just wrote a repair for a guy to replace the passlock sensor, but it doesn't sound that extreme. Your key has a chip in it for the passlock security system, there are 13 different resistences for these chips. Make apsolutely sure the key you had cut, has the same coded resistence (eg. code 2 will turn the cylinder of a code 3 ignition, but will shut down in a few seconds.) If you have a code 2 key make sure you order a code 3 key before you have it cut. All 13 different keys can be cut to be able to turn in the ignition but only the right code will stay running.

My car want start cause of the sericuty light is on

theres a chip on the key and when you insert the key into the cylinder lock to start the car theres two sensors that read the chip, the most common problem is the sensors stick and doesnt spring out to touch the chip, try spraying a little wd40 into lock and look inside you will see two round sensors use a small pick to push them in and make sure they pop back out theres one on each side, if that doesnt work then the wires from the igntion are broken inside the steering column, take note if this is the problem the car will start and die start and die thats the problem you get from the system if it bad, but if you turn the key to start the car and it doesnt do anything or the engine just spins without running a few seconds then its not the antitheft system .hope this helps,

My car does this when I use my key that the computer chip AKA (VATS) is messed up it will start then immediatly die. The car will start without a working vats key then immediatley die.

The chip is inside they key and isn't visible
