Who told you it was something in the gas tank ? Something ? not very precise info ? If I were you I would take it to a reputable repair shop and buy a hour of diagnostic time to find out exactly what was wrong instead playing a guessing game, guesses and throwing parts at it will always be more expensive than correctly diagnosing your problem. Often times they will apply the hour of diagnostic time towards your final expense of the repair, If I were you this is where i would start. You could have many issues with your overall description of your issue, don't guess at it...

To be very honest with you I doubt very much the diagnosis you got is accurate, fuel pumps are either good or bad not half good or half bad, you may have a clogged fuel filter but I would still suspect there is another problem, if I were you I would get another opinion at a different repair shop, but to answer question on the cost, I can't be precise because of the difference in shop hourly labor rates vary widely from shop to shop, but to drop a fuel tank and change a fuel pump or filter you would look to about 2 to 3 hours tops at a flat rate shop plus parts, now shop labor rates can vary from as low as $ 60 per hour to as high as $120.00 per hour depending on where you live. so shop around for the best price but take into mind the reputation and reliability of the shop and mechanic you use, research them first , use references from former customers and check the BBB or the BAR for pending or past complaints, it's your money spend it wisely the first time...

2004 Chevy Cavalier - car cranks over but won't start

Well, let me try to say this without being too offensive.....
Your car only quit running on you once. I find it really hard to believe that all of the parts you replaced so far, needed to be replaced to get the engine running again. It is EXTREMELY UNLIKELY that all of these "failures" would occur all at the same time.

You would rather pay for $500+ in parts that the car apparently did not need, than to pay to have it towed to a shop where they have the knowledge, training and equipment necessary to properly diagnose the vehicle and get it running again? And now you want someone to tell you what is causing the problem with your vehicle without the benifit of any diagnostic testing?

There is NO WAY that ANYONE can accurately tell you what is wrong with your vehicle without following the correct diagnostic procedures recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. The most anyone can do online without proper diagnosis and testing is GUESS! You seem to be doing that very well on your own.

I came to a stop sign and my car just died ! The motor turns over but it seems not to be getting gas. What should i do ?

I had this same problem at a library, was told by passerby's that I needed a new alternator but I actually had to buy a new fuel pump which is located in the gas tank about $350 later (parts and labor). My car sounded like it wanted to start but then would die...hope this helps.

97 cavalier key won't turn

My daughter was told the same thing when her key wouldn't turn and was getting stuck in her 97 chevy cavalier. The used-car dealer suggested going to a Chevy dealer and getting a master key remade, not a copy of the key. We did for $16 and the new master key did the trick! It's as smooth using the key as in a new car. Try that first before any of the worst-case scenarios...

Just put gas in car but it is acting like its out of gas,

sounds like bad gas. go to local Napa parts tore and buy something called Sea Foam and put it in tank. It will work wonders.

'97 chevy cavalier won't start

Since there are no carburetor the fuel injection nozzles have holes which are about the size of a human hair, its imperative that these nozzles are cleaned properly and that can be done by a trained technician of any service center.............sodeep

97 cavalier was running but just stopped.

Did you replace the ignition switch or the KEY AND CYLINDER?

These are the only 2 things that can make your engine turn off when you release the ignition switch after starting the engine.

I hope this helps you.
