In my Venture 2003 the instrument panel won`t lit, and when I turn on the parking lamps or the head lamps, the stereo panel goes off thanks for your help

Interior Lamps Dimming
The second group includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group may use a combination of vacuum fluorescent (VF) illumination and incandescent lamps.
• Power window switches
• HVAC control head assembly
• Radio
• The instrument panel cluster (IPC)
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) display (radio) turns on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are ON all incandescent back lighting turn ON at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. At the same time all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays dim to match the indicated dimming level. When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK position, the park lamp supply voltage circuit provides an input to the body control module (BCM). The BCM then supplies voltage to the instrument panel dimmer switch through the instrument panel dimming lamps control circuit. The setting of the instrument panel dimmer switch determines the amount of voltage that the instrument panel dimmer switch supplies to the BCM through the instrument panel dimming lamps low reference circuit. The BCM then sends a pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage to all the interior lamps. All the vacuum florescent (VF) and incandescent back lighting lamps are provided a specific voltage and are then grounded. When the headlight switch is turned to the PARK or HEADLAMP position, all incandescent back lighting turn on at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, as well as all incandescent back lighting respond from Minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.

I would have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM !
DTC B2624 Display Dimming Input Range/Performance
The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to the instrument panel dimmer switch through the instrument panel dimmer switch signal circuit. The dimmer switch varies the voltage and returns the new voltage to the BCM through the dimmer switch signal return circuit. The BCM uses this voltage to determine the illumination level of the instrument panel lamps.

DTC B2625 Display Dimming Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) Output Circuit Range/Performance
The body control module (BCM) receives a variable voltage from the instrument panel (I/P) lamp dimmer switch. The BCM uses this signal in order to vary the illumination level of the I/P lamps. The I/P dimming lamps output from the BCM is a pulse width modulated voltage supply used to light the I/P lamps. If a malfunction occurs in the I/P dimming lamps output circuit, this DTC is set.

DTC B2662 Park Lamp Switch Circuit Malfunction
The park lamps are controlled by the turn/headlamp switch. Positive battery voltage is supplied to the switch through the EXT LP fuse. When the turn/headlamp switch is placed in the park or head position, battery voltage is supplied to the park lamps. The body control module (BCM) is also connected to the park lamp circuit to sense whether or not the park lamps turn ON when the low beam or high beam headlamps are turned ON. The BCM also uses the parklamp battery positive voltage to power the instrument panel (I/P) dimmer output circuit. If the BCM senses that the low beam or high beam headlamps are ON and the park lamp input is not active, DTC B2662 sets.

I have 03 Chevy tracker and tail light , dash light won't come on. I checked fuses. Is there any thing else I can check ?


Turn the parking lamps or headlamps on in order to illuminate the instrument panel and instrument panel cluster lamps. Voltage applies at all times through the TAIL fuse to the tail relay. Turning the turn signal/headlamp switch to the PARK or the HEAD position provides a ground path to the coil side of the relay to G202. The ground path energizes the coil of the relay. This closes the contacts in the relay. The closed contacts apply voltage to the IP dimmer illumination controller and all the illumination lamps. The illumination lamps are ground through the illumination controller. The controller is located on the left side of the instrument panel. Since the illumination controller is ground to G200, the lamps illuminate when voltage applies. The intensity of the instrument panel and the instrument panel cluster lamps is adjusted by the controller (4). The controller controls the intensity of the lamps by controlling the amount of current from the lamps to ground.Check the tail relay !

Why aren't parking lights working?

Voltage is applied continuously to the PARK fuse to the headlamp and the instrument panel (IP) lamp dimmer switch through CKT 1340.
When the headlamp and the (IP) lamp dimmer switch is in the PARK or HEAD position, voltage is applied to CKT 9 thus activating the following lamps:
• The park lamps
• The side marker lamps
• The tail lamps
• The license lamps
The park/turn lamps are the only lamps that do not activate yet receive a current from CKT 9. The park/turn lamps do not activate because the voltage drop across the front side marker lamps is much higher than that across the turn lamp filaments Step

Why doesn't my speedometer/odometer, horn and headlights work?


Which insturment cluster does your's have ? electronic instrument cluster or standard instrument cluster !

Speedometer/Odometer
The speedometer and odometer provides speed information based on a speed/distance pulse signal from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). The VSS is mounted on the speedometer driven gear in the transmission.
Could be the VSS is bad .
Horn The horn system includes the following:
  • horn relay
  • horn
  • clock spring
  • steering wheel control switch harness
  • steering wheel pad horn switch, which is part of the driver side air bag module. For additional information, refer to Section 501-20B .
The horn is located behind the front bumper mounted to the radiator support.

Is the air bag light lit on the insturment cluster ? If it is the clock spring could be the problem . If not lit check the circuits from the horn relay .

Principles of Operation
NOTE: Due to varying wattage ratings and resulting current draw, certain aftermarket headlamp bulbs may cause the lighting control module (LCM) to shut down the short circuit protection, resulting in the low beams becoming inoperative. Verify that the headlamp bulbs meet Ford specifications.
Headlamp System The headlamp system consists of:
  • two aerodynamic halogen headlamp bulbs and retainers
  • headlamp switch
  • multifunction switch
  • lighting control module (LCM)
  • circuit wiring and circuit protection
In normal operation:
  • With the multifunction switch in the low beam position, power is supplied by the LCM to the low beam elements through the multifunction switch.
  • With the multifunction switch in the high beam position (forward detent), power is supplied to the high beam elements and to the high beam indicator in the instrument cluster.
  • When the multifunction switch is pulled toward the steering wheel, the flash-to-pass switch (part of the multifunction switch) is closed and power is supplied to the high beam elements. When the switch is released, they return to low beam operation.
  • The battery saver feature of the LCM will automatically turn off the courtesy lamps, demand lamps, headlamps, or parking lamps under the following conditions:
    • The ignition switch is in the OFF position.
    • The headlamp switch is in parking lamps ON or headlamps ON positions.
    • After 10 minutes.
Headlamp Switch The headlamp switch is a multi-position switch.
  • The positions include OFF, PARK, and HEAD.
  • With the headlamp switch in the PARK position (first detent), a signal is supplied to the LCM which powers the front parking lamps, the tail lamps, the side marker lamps, and the license lamp.
  • With the headlamp switch in the HEAD position, power is supplied to the headlamps through the LCM and the multifunction switch.
  • The panel dim switch (part of the headlamp switch) is located above the headlamp switch. The panel dim switch operates only with the parking lamps or headlamps on.
  • When the panel dim switch is held in the up position, the instrument panel lighting will progressively brighten.
  • When the panel dim switch is held in the down position, the instrument panel lighting will progressively dim.

Headlamps On Warning Chime If the headlamp switch is left in either the PARK or HEAD position and the driver door is opened, the LCM will sound a headlamps on reminder chime when the following conditions occur:
  • The ignition switch is OFF with the ignition key out.
  • The driver door is ajar.

I have a 98 chevy malibu. the tail lights, running lights and instrument lights do not work but head lights do


The good news is that all of these problems stem from the same source: the 15A PARK LPS fuse in the underhood wiring harness junction block. When you set the turn/headlamp/wiper switch to PARK, the park lamp relay in the junction block closes and power is applied to the front marker lamps and the park filament of the front park/turn lamps as well as the tail filaments of the rear tail/stop lamps.

As for the instrument lights, that same PARK LPS fuse applies power to the same turn/headlamp/wiper switch that, when set to PARK or HEAD applies power to the variable panel dimmer switch which lets you set the illumination level. Switch output is applied to the lamp dimmer module and module output passes through the 10A INST LAMPS fuse in the right I/P wiring harness junction block to the instrument lamps

The rapid flashing occurs because of the light problem. If the 20A PARK LP fuse in the underhood fuse block is OK, the front marker lamps and the park lights should turn on when you set the headlamp switch to PARK. If the 10A T/SIG fuse in the instrument panel fuse block is OK, and the ignition switch is on, moving the turn signal multi-function switch to signal a right or left turn should cause the turn signals to flash. If this doesn't happen, check for a missing ground connection to the socket you replaced and check to be sure the replacement lamp was not forced into the socket backwards (it happens).

My dashboard and rear lights don't work


Assuming this has the V6, the 15A PARK LPS fuse in the underhood fuse block feeds constant power to the auto park lamp relay. When the relay closes, 12V power passes through the 10A INST LPS fuse in the right instrument panel fuse block to the panel dimmer switch and then to the five instrument cluster lamps.

If by "rear lights" you mean everything in the rear lamp assemblies, power for the tail lights (running lights) starts at the 15A PARKLAMP fuse in the underhood junction block, passes through the automatic lamp control (ALC) relay and the right instrument panel junction block to the tail filament of the dual stop/tail lamp and the separate tail lamp on each side. The 12 V power for the stop lamps is protected by the 20A STOPLAMPS fuse in the left I/P junction block, passes through the stoplamp switch when brakes are applied, stop filament of the dual stop/tail lamps. That leaves the turn signals and the hazard lamps. Power for the turn signals originates at the 10A TURNLAMPS fuse in the left I/P junction block and is applied to the hazard switch. Switch output goes to the turn/headlamp/wiper switch for selection of left or right turn signals. That switch output goes to the turn lamp. Power for the hazard function begins at the 10A HAZRD LPS fuse in the left I/P junction box and goes to the hazard switch. Switch output is sent to the left I/P junction box to make the turn signals flash. That's it. Post a comment if you need more information.

My 2002 ford ranger running lights and instrument panel dont work


12V power passes through 15A fuse 33 (the one that keeps blowing?) in the battery junction box and on to the main light switch. When the main light switch is set to PARK, 12 volts is routed via the BRN lead to the park filaments of the dual park/turn lamps. These lights remain on when the headlight switch is turned to HEAD.

The main light switch gets its 12V input from 7.5A fuse 11 in the central junction box and the same 15A fuse (33) identified above. When the main light switch is set to PARK, 12 volts is routed via the BRN lead to the instrument panel dimming module and module output is applied to the panel illuminating lamps.These lights remain on when the headlight switch is turned to HEAD.

The input to fuse 33 is hot all the time so should read 12V. If you read 12V at the TAN/WHT connection with the fuse out, something is definitely not right. I'm sure you have noted that the fuse is common to the non-functioning circuits you mentioned.
