2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 "Choking & Jerking"

I am having a problem with my 137k mile, 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE choking. The problem started after I had my spark plugs and air filter changed. I also had the throttle body cleaned. When I cranked the car it fell dead. I restarted the car and when I reached speed of 60 mph the car began to **** and choke. Later that day, I tried to crank the car and the car kept choking out. I contacted Nissan and was told that my problem was the spark plugs that I used. The Nisssan rep said, I could not use Bosch Platinum 4 spark plugs. I was told that my car could only use the factory plugs NGK 4. So I returned the Bosch plugs and bought the NGK laser platinum spark plugs. This did not help my car is still jerking and choking. My car is now acting like its losing power when I attempt to accelerate in 1st gear. The car starts to **** when I reach about 2500 RPM, then it will smooth out, and start back jerking at about 60+ MPH. The check engine light is on. Any idea what could be causing this?

I just had the same problem with my '02 altima SE.
Took it to Buckeye Nissan in Hilliard OH. and they had to replace the two crank sensors which.
The sensors themselves were about $44.00 a piece, but w/labor about $300.00 was the total. Hope this helps.....Now if I can just get the heater working!

This problem is cause by the mass air flow sensor. it is between your air filter and your throttle body. if you unplug the sensor the car will be able to drive with out it choking.

If it aftermarket(bunch of wires and modules under the dash on the drivers side) remove it. If it is still factory it takes a scanner.

Engine just cutting out even while driving

Sounds like misfire.
On this cars common problem is - intake manifold gasket goes bad creating big vacuum leak , what makes fuel mixture very lean and causing misfire and even stalling engine.
Usually gasket goes bad toward rear of the engine.
How to check :
Buy carburator cleaner spray .
Turn engine on and spray cleaner in to intake manifold gasket area , from begining to the end of it.
If engine start choking or picks up the idle speed - it is your problem. Choking indicates big vacuum leak ,
idle increase indicates small vacuum leak.
