My radiator seems to overheat it steams but the gauge doesnt show it running hot it only does this when i add water in the plastic reserve tank

Does the temp gauge show overheat? If not, then you're not overheating. Possible you have a head gasket problem,which lets combustion gas into the water and can look like boilover.

I have a hino 1995 ff2h h07c-turbo experiencing overheating problem. When I'm driving suburban street below 65kms the engine temperature is moderate. However once I drive on motorway exceeding 70kms...


You say its overheating but not loosing coolant, is it truly overheating or is the gauge telling fibs. You seem to have done all the right things but if it retains its coolant I don't see a reason other than the gauge. When you next run it and it shows overheat on the gauge, get a rag and very gently crack the rad cap. If hot water comes out but no steam then it may not be too hot. If after a few minutes you are able to safely remove the cap see what the gauge says with the key on but not running. If the gauge says its still high then the gauge is faulty because its obviously not boiling the coolant.
Lastly, have the rad cap checked or replaced because the cap is crucial to the boiling point of the coolant. Make sure the cap pressure setting is right for your vehicle, too low and it will boil easier.

I would be thinking radiator or water pump. When the engine is warmed up and the upper hose is hot, feel the lower radiator hose. It should be hot too, just a little cooler than the upper hose. If there is some blockage in the radiator, the lower hose may feel cold or just lukewarm.
Even though the water pump doesn't leak, the impellers may be made of plastic and have considerable wear. That would restrict circulation.
The heater core should not be an issue. Heater cores do not cause overheating even when totally plugged up.

Overheating coolant boiling out into reserve tank


you have a blown head gasket.. doesn't have to have coolant in the oil for a blown head gasket... if hoses are rock hard when running then you have exhaust leaking into the coolant via a blown head gasket...

I have a 99 Mercury Sable Wagon that keeps boiling the radiator fluid out of the reserve tank. The temp gauge isn't reading hot, though. Any suggestions? Thanks.


Sounds to me like a blown head gasket. Even if your vehicle is not warmed up, if your reserve tank is boiling fluid out of it when the engine is cool, it's most likely losing compression from it all going to your reserve tank. And thats why it's fluids coming out of your reserve tank. BUT, if your radiator is clogged then the same thing could happen. So i would start out cheap before you have to replace a HG. 1996 buick roadmaster. temp gauge goes almost all the way up to hot after driving about 10 miles. i'm thinking thermostat?


I assume you have a 3.8L V6. Probably thermostat, but first take a look in the radiator to make sure it is full. Not just the plastic overflow tank, take the radiator cap off and look. Make sure the engine is cold though. The radiator should be full to the top. The way the system works is that as you drive your car, the water heats up and expands and the check valve in the radiator cap will let the overflow go into the plastic tank when the pressure get over a set amount usually 14-17 lbs. When you shut off your engine, the water will be slowly sucked back into the radiator as the engine cools. if the radiator cap is bad, it may not let the water get sucked back into the radiator and the engine will run hot, you will get air and steam bubbles in the engine, the thermostat will work as long as it has water running by it but if a slug of steam goes by it, it will close. "Burping" that engine is a pain but just keep the overflow tank full and check it every time you *start* the car. The air will work itself out.

Vitara overheat


When driving down highway only, it overheats? When running steady, I take it you mean, sitting idling? If it's only overheating at highway speeds, and all else has been checked out & is o.k., I'd take a close look at rad hoses for soft spots (easy to squeeze) that may be causing hoses to collapse at highway speeds & restricting flow of cooling system. Another thing to try is, turn your heater on high fan & high temperature when it starts to heat up & see if temperature gauge goes down (cooler) at all. If it does, then rad not doing it's job properly.

My car overheat very high. my reserve tank will over flow and will boil up, and then runs out of coolant. why?


When the engine overheats, steam moves to the reserve tank to relieve pressure in the system, and can seem like it is overflowing.

Civic cooling systems always require an auxilliary fan or blower. Have this checked for serviceability. If the aux.fan is working properly, this points to other problems with your cooling system, which may include faulty hoses, water pump failure, and/or water temp. sensor failure.

Overheating,reserve coolant tank boiling I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with the similar problem. I had my water pump replaced then this started.

To solve the problem you have the things to do in this order;

) When the engine is cold top off the radiator with fluid. (When the pump was replaced the fluid should have been also)
) Make sure the radiator fluid has anti-freeze in it. This is also anti boil also !
) Add fluid to the overflow reservoir.
) Make sure the drive belt was replaced on the water pump.
) With the engine running, you can add fluid to the radiator for the first minute or so. You want to get air pockets out.
) Replace radiator cap.
) Let car warm up. When it's hot you should get the radiator fan coming on.
) When it get hotter the air-conditioning fan may come on.
) If the fan does not come on, the heat sensor is probably bad.
) If all fans come on, and it overheats, you may have a bad thermostat. Trace the upper radiator hose to where it connects to the engine. That's where it located.

Do not operate the engine when it overheats, You will damage the head gaskets and cause radiator fluid to leak into the cylinders.
If you smell radiator fluid in the exhaust fumes, it may already be leaking.
