Question about 2000 Buick LeSabre

My car stalls in traffic, some time it won't start. i have had this car to the shop twice. its there now. the car will stall, cut off want start. then when i get it restarted it may run good for a day or maybe two. then it starts all over again.

A bad crank sensor, or cam sensor will cause this--no start, hard time starting, shut off while driving. these will set a fault code. have engine scanned. auto zone will do this for free. p0340 is a bad cam sensor,

The first thing that must be done here is to have the electronic engine control computer scanned for fault codes, this is called an OBD1 fault code test. The dealer or a well equipped shop can do the testing and diagnosis of the problem for you.

Is the MIL ligh on? have you checked for codes? if no codes stored then you have a vacume or fuel issues. Replace the IAC idler air control valve and or look for vacume leak.

It sounds like there could be 2 possible problems. 1) the spark plugs might be too old and do not convert power efficiently causing it to shudder or even stall when power needs increase (I suggest a tune-up). Or 2) the timing could be off and needs to be adjusted by a mechanic, while you're at it you might want to see how worn your timing belt is, if it no longer grips it can cause off time explosions in the valve chambers and you'll definitely get some shaking action and even stalling and if it snaps, the car won;t be going anywhere (til the belt it gets replaced).
