Usually mounted on the driver side or passenger side through the motor and possible a plate into the transmission. remove the negative terminal from the battery and set aside so it doesn't touch the negative post, climb under the truck, remove the starter and power and signal leads, replace with new or quality remanufactured, installation is reverse procedure of removal

Try unplugging the 4wheel drive actuator and see if it will disingage; if that doesnt work then its probably in the transfer case itself.

I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HERE MY STARTER JUST CLICKS THEN TURNS OVER

These starters have copper contact plates in the solenoid part. When they wear out, they flatten, reducung the contact area. Usually resulting in one or more tries (clicks) to get them to swell from electrical heat to make enough contact to start vehicle. Can be replaced by a handy person, and the rebuild kits are available online, or you can just replace the entire starter with a rebuilt one.

2001 tundra v/8 automatic. Starter sometimes just clicks. Will usually crank thereafter but getting worse. Any simple fixes?

DYI fixes for this problem:
1. search if there are starter relays for your vehicle. replace if existing.
2. replace SOLENOID VALVE in your starter. this normally looks like this picture

Drivers side is bank 1, sensor 1 is found by looking up from under the truck on the exhaust pipe just below the manifold.
