I am not being clear. Everything is disconnected from the steering column. It is ready to come out with one exception. The shifter cable is connected to the bracket. I do not know how the tab releases for the shift cable to slide up and off the bracket

Hi,

Shift Cable

  1. With the engine stopped, place the transmission selector lever at the steering column in the D position for the C6 or the D overdrive position for the AODE-W, 4R70W and E4OD.
  2. Hang a 3 lb. (1.4 kg) weight on the end of the shift lever.
  3. Pry the end of the shift cable from the transmission control lever ball stud.
  4. Unlock the adjuster body, release the lock tab on the top side of the cable by pushing down on the 2 tangs.
  5. Check to be sure the cable moves freely without binding.
  6. Move the lever on the transmission all the way rearward and then 3 detent positions forward.
  7. Holding the cable end fitting, push the cable rearward until the end fitting lines up with the manual control lever ball stud.
  8. Push up on the lock tab to lock the adjuster body in the correctly adjusted position. Be sure the locator tab is properly seated in the bracket.
  9. Make certain the shift cable is clipped to the floor pan at the white cable mark and the cable is routed into the tunnel.
  10. Adjust the shift indicator pointer while the transmission is still in the overdrive position.
  11. Remove the weight and check the control lever in all shift positions.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

How do you remove the ignition switch on a ford 250 1994 model?

Do you mean the key and tumbler, or the switch down on the bottom of the steering column? If you mean the switch, just lower your steering column by removing the cover at the bottom of the dash, and then remove the 2 bolts on either side of the column. The switch is near the base of the column, and the rod that runs from the ignition switch goes into it.
If you mean the key and tumbler, you have to pull the steering wheel, remove the screws from the signal cam, and then remove the locking bolt that holds the tumbler. You will need a steering wheel puller to remove the snap ring, and to reinstall.

How do I locate the ignition switch and remove it from my gmc sierra 1991 ignition switch

The ignition switch is located on the top of the steering column underneath the dash.

1. Remove the cover panel from under the steering column and you should see the bracket that holds up the steering column, but before you un-bolt the bracket to lower the steering column, you must remove the clip holding the shifter position indicator cable to the column. (put the shifter into drive and you should be able to see the screw that holds the shift indicator cable adjusting clip to the steering column)

2. Remove the bracket holding up the steering column and carefully let the steering column down as far as it will go, the steering wheel will probably be resting on the seat.

3. You should now be able to see the ignition switch on the top of the steering column, and the two mounting bolts. The high beam switch might share the upper ignition switch bolt, and you will then need to remove the high beam switch before you can remove the ignition switch.

4. Remove the ignition switch mounting bolts (usually 5/16 but I have also seen 11/32 and 3/8 size bolt heads used)

5. Remove the ignition switch by lifting straight up from the column to dis-engage the interlink rod from the ignition tumbler assembly, you should then be able to pull the ignition over towards you just enough to dis-connect the two wire connectors to the switch and then you can remove the old switch from the vehicle. (the interlink rod is sticking straight up from the steering column and it slides up and down with the operation of the key, it fits into a notch in the ignition switch and that is what actuates the switch)

6. Reverse procedure to install new switch, starting with re-connecting the wire connectors and be sure that the interlink rod goes into the notch in the ignition switch.

7. When the switch has been re-installed and is ready to be adjusted, turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and hold the key in that position and slide the ignition switch up and down until it is in the on position and your dash lights come on, tighten up the ignition switch mounting bolts and then test the operation of the switch, and re-adjust if necessary until the switch operates properly.

8. Adjust the high beam switch by pulling back on the high beam lever and just taking up the slack in the actuator rod to the high beam switch, test the operation of the high beam switch and re-adjust if necessary.

9. When the steering column is bolted back up, re-attach and adjust the shifter position indicator by placing the shifter in neutral and slide the adjusting cable clip until the shift indicator is pointing in the neutral position, test the function of the shift indicator and adjust as necessary.

How do you remove or drop down the tilt steering column on a 1989 F250 4x4 7.3 diesel? I'm trying to replace the clutch and brake peddle support pivot bracket that is broken. I've gotten the bracket...

this is for 1996, don't have 89.
these may be steps you need

  1. Remove pinch bolt from steering shaft flex coupling.
  1. Disconnect shift cable from selector lever pivot.
  1. Remove shift cable from steering column lower mounting bracket by pushing tab on cable in and sliding cable off bracket.
  1. Disconnect ignition switch (11572) by loosening bolt and removing connector. The bolt is part of connector and can not be removed.
  1. While supporting steering column, remove four retaining nuts.
  1. Disconnect collapsible intermediate shaft from U-joint at lower end of steering column.
  1. Remove steering column from vehicle.

How do i change out the shift indicator on an 85 chevy c10 pickup. i bought a new one cause mine didnt tell you which gear you were shifting into and now i dnt know how to get to it to change it out

You have to drop down the column by removing the two front bolts that hold it on, you can remove the bezel by removing the screws off of it and you can remove the clip that holds on the cable to the outer shift bezel and remove two screws holding the shift indicator on and install the new one as you see old one attached. Normally all that happens is the spring or cable breaks. Then you have to slide it on the bezel to get it to read the right gear.
