I was talking about the cruise control. It prompted me to sign up and I did not complete the problem. I check the fuse for the cruise control #14. It is not blown. Anything else easy to check?

The Tachometer does not work and the speedometer is off by aroung 15 mph also. Is it possible that this could be some of the contributing factors to the cruise control. Sorry I did not mention this earlier. The car has multiple elictrical problems. Rear windows have now power also.

I have a 1997 Jetta the cruise control is inop, the tachometer is also inop. The speedometer is off close to 15mph. and the rear windows do not roll down. Where should I start. The car runs great and we would like to keep it for around town, just want to fix a few things.

The speed sensor at the transmission is faulty and must be replaced. To locate the component if you are going to attempt to do the component replacement yourself jack up the front of the car and support it with jack stands, you may need to remove a plastic splash shield under the transmission some have one some don't. When looking up while under the transmission the speed sensor should be located near the part of the trans. where the axle shafts exit the transmission's body look for the wire and plug it will attach to the speed sensor. Don't mix up the neutral safety switch with the speed sensor if you first buy the sensor you will more easily ID the sensor because you'll have something to visually compare it to. In closing if you can't locate the component it may only be accessable from the top however unlikely, if you need to purchase a cd repair manual off ebay motors it has aelectrical component locator on the cd that is very useful for electrical sensor Identification and location along with step by step repair instructions for $20.00.

I 1st have to ask has the battery been tested? are the battery cables clean and free of any white looking corrosion? these 2 are the most common cause of this problem by far.

I have a 2000 vw jetta glx with the vr6 that needs the timing chain replaced there is an upper and lower one. So I was hoping at minimum that someone could post a link to a complete walkthrough along with...

The Jetta vr6 has a timing chain. These don't have to be replaced unless the gear is worn. When worn they will jump timing by a tooth or two. This will cause the engine to run rough. You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.

Jetta v6 lurching and almost stalling

When something in the car's faulty and a sensor picks it up and tells the computer, the computer will cause the car to do exactly that. Could be anything, from a damaged air intake sensor to the breaks.

Have your car connected to a computer and let the computer do the talking for you.
