Question about 1990 Ford Bronco

I have a 1990 Ford Bronco 5.0L Eddie Bauer. It takes a while to keep the truck idle but when it warms up it seems to stay idle but will die every once in a while. I have to feather the gas pedal to keep it from dying. I changed the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. I also gave it a oil change and new air filter. I also noticed that I can't get the truck to go past 2500 r.p.m. It drives but lacks alot of power. I just bought this truck about a month ago.

    fuel pressure is fine. I just don't understand why I can't get the motor to rev over 2500 rpm?

    I can drive just fine when I finally get the vehicle to idle but I do notice a big loss in power, almost as

    if I am only driving on 4 cyclinders. I did the basic maint. to see if that would help, but it didnt.

    I even put in a brand new battery. Do you think it could be the timing? The guy I bought it from did say he had to put a new dist mod on, maybe he didn't place the rotor back properly? Would this cause power loss and or erratic idle until the engine is warm? What about the rpm range? What is the redline on this motor??? Thanks for you help!!!!!!!

I cannot see any of the other comments that have possibly been posted to you by others. It sounds as though the fuel pump is not "feeding" enough gas and is peetering out at high speeds.....by chance have you done a fuel pressure check? Also, the fuel filter can give you some problems similar to this.

    Well I can tell you that timing has a lot to do with it....and if timing is not set properly, it will run pretty bad. Looking up some specs for you....

My batterry keeps dying over night and have to jump start it eveyday and the batterry is good


my 99 Expedition was doing the same.....finally figured out the lights on the running boards were staying on all night......this wasw my cause? Hope it helps.

90 ford bronco is cold blooded


There is a sensor on the manifold called the ACT, air charge temp. if it is malfunctioning it can cause this behavor. Run codes and see what it shows. if you dont want to by a scanner you can find full instructions on how to pull codes manually at fordfuelinjection.com

sounds like your rear differential is about to go out you should take it in to a shop right away before you get stuck somewhere. they will have to rebuild it.

Transmission bronco 90'


You should not have to Replace the Transmission. You will however need to get it Rebuilt, Prices Vary from State to State. I am in Oklahoma any Chance that you are too?

if there is no plug then just pop off the lower radiator hose at the radiator. then the fluid will drain
