Question about 2003 Ford Escape

1 Answer

Ford Escape running badly

My 3.0 liter 2003 Escape has just had fuel filter, air filter, plugs, wires, and a coil replaced. The check engine light was on reading multiple misfires but when I replaced the fuel filter the light went off. It was lacking power and running rough, now doesnt want to run at all. Anyone have any ideas?

05 ford escape misses usually while accelerating. Sort of like a lunging problem when a fuel filter is bad. Happens maybe 8 times in a 25 mile drive. This problem prompted me to replace Spark plugs/fuel...

It is more likely the spark plug coils which go bad a little at a time, so you start to feel misfire randomly and often times it gets worse in wet or high humidity weather. If your engine service light blinks, this is sure sign of coil near the end of its life, happened on mine that way, lived with the missfire for a month or so, then it got to point engine light blinked, and if you read codes it will tell you which cylinder is misfiring, so visit local Autozone or other like O'reilly and they will read code for free, whereby Ford dealers will charge you. Easy to replace the coils, so I would bet that is your problem.

My 2003 escape sometimes starts and when it doesn't it acts like it's running out of gas. i reset the fuel cut off switch but it didn't fix my problem

Have you tried changing the fuel filter? It may be clogged up. You may have a leak in the line or bad fuel injectors. The best way to tell if it is fuel related is by checking the fuel pressure. If that checks out, it may be a vaccum leak, the air filter, or a low spark in the ignition system. You could need a tune-up, spark plugs/coils, wires, distributor cap, rotor, Check the fuel first and let me know if you have any questions. I will help you the best I can.

is the car missing when driving? 2000 and on has coil over plug's there are no wires. Is the check engine light on? if so go to an Auto Zone parts store or one that will scan the car computer for free and get the codes out to pin point the problem. Sounds like the cars miss firing. it could be more than one coil and or plug going bad. Did you replace any coil packs? Bad coil packs are 90% of all miss fires on todays cars and trucks.

No start

I'll give you a list of a few things that could be causing your problem. However, I think it's most likely a bad ignition module. I looked this up on the web and I see a lot of ignition module problems for the 2002 Escape. I checked the Ford recall list but there was no recall issued for what looks to be a very common problem with the ignition module.

Here are some other things that could be causing your problem.
1. Bad ignition coil
2. Clogged fuel filter
3. Clogged air filter
4. Clogged fuel injectors
5. Bad spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and /or rotor.
