What does that mean? This involves the rear oxygen sensor on the passenger side. This code indicates the engine air fuel ratio is not being adjusted by the oxygen sensor signal or the ECM as expected to do so, or not adjusted as often as expected to do so once the engine is warmed or under normal engine use.

Symptoms You will likely not notice any drivability problems, although there may be symptoms.
Causes A code P0159 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:

  • The oxygen sensor is faulty
  • The wiring to the sensor is broken / frayed
  • There is an exhaust leak
Possible Solutions The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If the code comes back, the problem is more than likely the rear passenger side oxygen sensor. You will likely wind up replacing it but you should also consider these possible solutions:
  • Check and fix any exhaust leaks
  • Check for wiring problems (shorted, frayed wires)
  • Check the frequency and amplitude of the oxygen sensor (advanced)
  • Check for a deteriorating / contaminated oxygen sensor, replace if necessary
  • Check for inlet air leaks
  • Check the MAF sensor for proper operation

Car looses power, bogs down check engine flashes rapidly. No acceleration, then 15 - 30 seconds later power comes back and check engine light goes solid and stays on for 2 or 3 days.Anyone with idea?

You should read check engine code.
It tells you more than you can guess.
You can buy quality $1000 snap-on OBD scanner or $30 cheap one.
$30 will do good job. (you need to google after car tells you error code because cheap scanner shows only code but not meanings in plain English)

or you can visit local autozone and ask them read code for free.
unless you ask car itself, nobody will be accurate.

What else could cause the check engine code to read mass airflow sensor?

OBD Codes have nothing to do with telling you the

You were only told about the code

No one can tell you what the problems may be, until the vehicle
is properly tested to even find a problem

Code p0159 what is this

159, (USA?) must be V6 or V8 it has 2 banks.
first google hit
Possible causes
- Faulty Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 harness is open or shorted
- Rear Heated Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 circuit poor electrical connection
- Inappropriate fuel pressure
- Faulty fuel injectors
- Intake air leaks may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks

let me condense this.
1: the right bank rear 02 sensors is reading wrong,
note I did not say it was bad. dig?
2: this means the CAT on that side, is UNHAPPY.

unhappy can be , as it said air leaks anywhere near the front or rear of Bank 2 CAT.
unhappy 2, is the engine fuel controls are totally out of control
way rich or lean, out of control;
unhappy3, gross misfire, or all the above at once.

the ECU(pcm) at no time ever KNOW what is wrong, it only can flag bad inputs. or tests that fail , tests are called (USA,OBD2 SAE) called Monitors.
do you have a full can tool? or just a near useless codereader.

Check engine read out says it's the cat longer warranteed @ 89K is running well......mechanic says there are 2 cat converters on this car - dealer says no, only one -...

Go to a qualified exhaust shop, and have them look at the problem. It isn't hard for them to diagnose problems with catalytic converters. If they tell you the cats are fine, then they are fine. However they will tell you what is the problem. Personally I wouldn't trust either the mechanic or the dealer.

Vsc & check engine light on. Code reads cylinder 2 misfire I have changed the plugs swaped coil with another cylinder swaped vsv's swaped injector plugs with another cylinder always shows misfire #2...

You may need to look at your exhaust system. If you have a leak, your O2 sensors will send the wrong reading to your engine which will in turn tell your engine to fire differently. Your code will come up reading as a misfired bank. See if you have an exhaust leak first, then see about changing out the O2 sensors behind the leak.

I bought use tercel 99 its manual trans 152000km run fin for 2 day then engine light turn on still run good it just use mor gas

I assume you are referring to the Check Engine light on the dashboard. The ECU (engine management computer) will have logged a fault. A Haynes manual or similar may tell you how to read the error codes that are stored in the ECU. When you have read the codes, it will tell you which engine components are suspect and need checking. As the fuel consumption has gone up noticeably since the light came on, it suggests that the error code will relate to a fuel system fault. For information when the ECU detects that an engine sensor is giving unexpected readings, it overrides (or ignores) the input from that sensor and replaces it with a safe "get you home" value. In doing so, this may lead to more fuel being supplied to the engine than would be the case if the engine sensor was working properly. If you aren't able to read the engine codes yourself, you might prefer to take the car to a garage and they will be able to interrogate the ECU for you.

Check engine light is on

P0159 is a 'request" code to check the Trasmisiom Control Module for another code for the TCM sensor codes. you may have to take it to a transmission shop.
