'Shorts' are more likely to protect the bulb rather than destroy it. I suspect it is just another case of Chinese junk disguised as a real product. The next one might outlast the car.

How to replace rear tail light?

In the trunk directly behind the tail light pull the carpet back and there are three twist off plastic nuts take them off then pull tail light straight out toward the rear. If you are just doing the bulb, do the same, but there will be separate connections attached to the assembly to remove. Once you get the actual light out, the bulb will be a breeze....(no pun intended)

I am trying to replace the brake light bulb on 97

Open the trunk and remove the fabric insert located by the tail light. There should be 2 plastic nuts toward the center-most part, one above the other about 6 inches apart (One above the other). Then on the quarter panel side (where the light comes to a point on the outside) there should be just one. Making a total of three nuts to remove it. On the plug there should be a small plastic red clip. Slide it aside and squeeze the tab to remove the plug. After you pull the light out you will see two silver dollar sized circles that hold the light bulb in. Twist this to remove the light bulb. There's also a third smaller one for the smaller bulb.

Rear tail and brake lights out 97 Jetta

I believe this car has a bulb with two fillaments for side and brake lights, it is unlikely that they are both burnt out at the same time but possible. It is more likely that the bulb holder or a ground connection is rusted or loose. The fuse generally covers all rear lights.

My 97 plymouth breeze's right rear tail light went out, I changed two bulbs. Now my right turn signal clicks at twice it's normal rate. Is it most likely Bulbs, fuse, or a pesky short.

It is most likely another faulty bulb in the turn signal circuit.
Ensure the indicator bulbs are replaced with the correct (specified) wattage rating.
Check you haven't dislodged or otherwise lost the ground connection to the rear tail light bulb sockets.

My rear pass. side taillight shorts out plus my

try putting a new ground on passenger tail light, to see if this helps. as for the hazard lights check fuse. maybe the short in your tail light shorted out and blew the fuse. to add ground wire hook from bulb socket to any metal piece in trunk!! if this is your problem then, cut old ground wire off.
