Question about 1994 Jeep Wrangler

93 wrangler 2.5 will crank but won't start. I pour gas down the #1 cylinder and put the plug back in and it will crank for about 8 seconds then sputter to life and idle and run fine. Shut it off and try to restart and it just cranks. Haven't tested fuel pressure yet, could the problem be the fuel pump?

Yes...check the pump, filter and output. Also check the ballast resistor for the pump. Stop pouring fuel into the cylinder...instead, use carb cleaner and spray into throttle body (excess fuel in one cyl will contaminate your engine oil). If it runs normally after you get it started likely the pump is good (unless you have problems at high rpm's under power) Regulator is likely good as well...default is to more fuel not less.

1995jeep wrangler 2.5 cranks well but doesn,t start


If its cranking fine you have one of two problems either your not getting any fuel or you have no spark. When toy turn the key to the on positron but don't crank the car lean back and listen for a whirling sound that is your fuel pump. If you don't hear anything is probably not working spray some starter fluid in your trottle body if starts you now know your problem. If the pump is working you need to check for spark one way to check is pull a spark plug wire off the plug plug it into a spark tester and crank it if you don't see any spark the problem may be your ignition module. I was driving my Toyota 4runner and noticed steam coming out from under hood. I shut engine off. After engine cooled off, it won't start so I can put water in it?


Well, you over heated it if you saw steam coming out. If you warped the head then you may be sucking air or throwing water into the pistons causing a no start. 1st is to make sure you are NOT putting water into the bottle or radiator. You need to be using coolant (Anti-freeze) 2nd, check to make sure you're getting gas 3rd make sure you're getting spark. If all is good then I would remove the spark plugs, and let them dry off because they're probably loaded with gas. Cut the fuel pump from pumping gas into the cylinders by either pressing 1/2 way down or all the way down on the gas pedal. Crank engine over 5 or 6 times to blow the gas out of the cylinders. Replace the dried off plugs or put new ones in. Turn key to on position count to 5 and start car. if that doesn't work try a 1 second squirt of starting fluid into the breather. If it starts great, if not then you probably need to look at the cam or crank sensor.

You will need air and fuel to make it run.Remove hose from airbox so there is no restriction possible.Next use a small funnel to pour a small amount of gas in each spark plug hole.put plugs back in.if it runs for a second or wants to then you have a fuel pump,fuel filter,or injector problem.If you dont wanna pour gas in each cylinder i would locate the fuel filter and replace it.should be less then 10 bucks.also get a friend to put there head under the car by the gas tank.when you turn the key on(just for power )not to crank motor.they should hear a quit electric noise.that is the fuel pump in your tank turning on.If pump works and no other restrictions...injectors.

I have a Chevy 2500 pick up truck. My son thought he'd replace the spark plugs. He removed the distributor cap, didn't understand it and now the truck won't start. He did not replace any spark...


firing order for 5.7 v8 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 mostly all of the chevy v8s are the same firing order. the rotor button in distributer turns clockwise, the cylinder numbers are 1-3-5-7 on drivers side, 2-4-6-8 is on passengers side. To get started get your distrutor cap[new one] look on the top you will see a #1that's where you begin you must know if if rotates clockwise or counter clockwise start in that direction then follow the firing order and cylinder line up. good-day!! if cap is not marked, just pull out #1 plug, put a straw or similar in plug hole on top of piston. turn engine over by crank in front of vehicle with a wrench, when the piston comes to the very top just before it starts going down. this is tdc. and rotor button should be pointing to #1 wire on dist, cap. follow from there. good-day !!

Its probably your computer. Had the same thing happen to me about ten years back. About 500 dollars. better off finding one on ebay or at a junk yard.

Mazda rx8 flooded .brakedown come tried to start engine turned over !then starter got hot ,now dosnt turn over just clicks? any wdvice please


Your problem is common in the RX-8. It occurs when you start a cold engine and shut it off before it reaches normal operating temperature. If your car does flood, you can first try depressing the accelerator completely and holding it (which shuts off the fuel pump) and then crank the motor for about 10 seconds (not longer or you may damage your starter). If this procedure above does not work, here is the technique a Mazda dealership will normally use (to be performed at your own risk): 1. Use jumper cables to connect to another car battery. 2. Unplug Air pump connector (the black circular motor housing to the left of the oil filler cap) 3. Take fuel pump fuse out (number 22, a 20 amp, 3 from the top of the second column of the fuse box 4. Crank for 4 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, repeat for about a minute 5. Leave for a minute 6. Crank for 4 seconds, pause for 2 seconds, repeat for about a minute 7. Put fuel pump fuse back in 8. Crank for up to 10 seconds, if it catches but doesn?t start, stop cranking 9. If not started go back to step 3 10. If started, wait 30 seconds for oil pressure to rise 11. Stand on throttle until white smoke stops coming out of the exhaust 12. Disconnect jump leads 13. Leave to warm up on idle for a few minutes 14. Put air pump connector back on (see note 3) 15. Go for a nice long drive to recharge the battery

1.) put aside about $50 that you are ging to spend... period
2.) drain the oil and remove the old oil filter
3.) install a new oil filter, add new 30W oil
4.) remove all 8 spark plug wire from the 8 spark plugs
5.) remove the 8 spark plugs
6.) spray about 5 seconds of WD40 into each of 8 spark plug holes
7.) spray the remainder of the can into each of the 2 valve covers thru the EGR holes (pull out the EGR valve first)
8.) making certain that you have a full battery charge, turn the starter switch to START for about 5 seconds... if your engine turns then your internals are not frozen... that's good
9.) open another can of WD40 and spray equal amounts into ecah of 8 spark plug holes a second time
10.) turn the start switch on for another 5 seconds and listen for strange sounds... by the way without the spark plugs the engine will rotate more quickly than you normally expect... not a problem because as it turns it is lubricating your internal parts
11.) wait a minute and then turn it on for for about 10-20 seconds while listening for scraping or knocking sounds... if none heard then you are all lubed up and ready to reinstall the spark plugs.
Install new plugs or sandpaper the old with the correct gap ( I believe .035")
12.) if you didn't mark the plug wires not a problem... Google '78 Chevy Distributor Firing Order to find terminal #1 on the distributor cap... usually about the 1 o'clock position
13.) install #1 wire to #1 sparkplug... the driver's side front closest to the radiator
14.) the distributor rotates like a clock (clockwise) and the numbers on the clock starting at #1 is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.... this is the firing order in a clockwise direction
15.) take the next plug wire #8 and connect it to #8 spark plug
Note: the spark plug numbers are cast into the top of the intake manifold for easier identification
16.) conect the remaining wires to their respective plugs
17.) make certain that you have a full battery charge, some gas in the tank (gas evaporates over 3 years) and a full radiator.
18.) Turn the starter switch and listen for the engine to start
19.) If it doesn't start the first time, try again and wait for the gas to reach the carburetor.... try again
20.) if it still doesn't start spray some engine strating fluid into the carbuetor throat and try again... it should start
21.) if it starts but doesn't keep running then repeat step 20. unitl the gas reaches the carburetor and continues to run on its own...!

1983 F250 will crank but not start


timing may be way off, distributor rotor may not be pointing at no. 1 distributor cap contactor when no. 1 piston is at top dead center. Also, confirm your spark plug wiring order on dist. cap is correct.
