SOURCE: timing chain mark diagram for a 94 grand am????

Haynes lists the entire procedure for setting the position of the cams etc. Positioning of these is critical...If off by even a slight amount the valves WILL strike the pistons and destroy the engine. DO NOT use any parts made by SA Gear...They have no quality control and will deny any claim made against them. Make sure that the chain guides are in good condition and that the chain tensioner is operating properly.

SOURCE: i need a diagram to show me how to replace my

I don't have a diagram but here are written instructions.

I don't know how much you know about the subject so I will start at the beginning. First you have to get to it, you can pull the motor or leave it in the vehicle. Its a little harder with it in depending on the space you have in engine compartment. If your leaving the motor in, which I imagine you are, your going to have to take the front end of the vehicle apart. Remove the grill, bumper if need be, radiator, fan, water pump, harmonic balancer, you will need to buy a puller and a installer for the harmonic balancer. You can get a puller kit from harbor frieght tools for $10. You can buy the installer from Summit racing (web site) for around $30 or you can buy one that will do both the install and removal from summit for $70. Once you have removed your harmonic balancer you can remove your timing cover to expose your timing chain. Turn the motor using a socket wrench until the timing marks on the crank gear and cam gear line up. The marks are usually just white dots, you want the crank mark to be up towards the cam and the cam mark towards the crank, the marks will be up and down from each other. Once you have the marks lined up remove the bolts holding the timing chain to the cam and crank. Remove the timing chain as a whole unit with the cam and crank gear still on it. If the crank gear doesn't want to come loose use your puller on it. when you get it off just put your new gear on and line up the timing marks then put it back on as one unit. If you cant get the crank gear on all the way by hand buy a crank install tool (summit) they run about $24. While you have the thing apart it would be a good Idea to put a new timing chain on. Depending on your vehicle this would also be a good time to change your cam if need be. Its not that hard to do it just takes a while, take your time and don't force anything. Ihave a 1991 nisan pickup 2.4

Could be a bad chain guide or tensioner.I've got a 85 Nissan 720 4x4 2.4 with a Weber carb.Had her since 1993.It had 108,000 miles on it when I got it.Not long afterwards,Carb went bad,no one could rebuild it,tried 3 places. Finally took to Nissan Dealer, they told me that the carb was a bad design and they could not rebuild, they told me it was junk, they were right, not long afterwards motor went bad,so I got a remanufactured Jasper motor, with 3 year-or 100,000 mile warranty, got it in 2009,I now have 61,000 miles on it with a new Weber carb and it runs awesome, never ever had a timing chain issue, speedo now has 344,000 miles on it.Had the engine installed by a Jasper engine installer,a pro, seems like whoever has been putting timing chains in your engine is clueless on these 2.4 engines, our Nissan's have a history of head gaskets blowing, never timing chain issues. Here is a link on how to replace your Timing chain. Can you tell me when I should change the timing chain on my 1995 Olds 98 Regency Elite? It has the 3.8 L series II V6. I currently have 116,000 miles. Also, are there performance mufflers with...

If it has a timing CHAIN, I wouldn't bother replacing it until you need a valve job or engine rebuild. The timing chain should last quite a while, especially since it is being lubricated as the engine runs.
However, if it has a timing BELT, at 116,000 miles, you're past due.

At what mileage does the timing chain need to be replaced? jeep wrangler 2008,3.8 L 6 cil.80,000 miles

You change the timing chain now when your Jeep has indicated from a check engine light on. The timing chain in engines these days last as long as the engine will, there is a timing chain tensioner to ensure there is no slack.
When the timing chain has gotten stretched to much, your Jeeps PCM will indicate that with a check engine light on your dash and will be indicated with a DTC codes from a scanner.
So no worries about replacing your timing chain and keep up the regular maintenance, if you have a Mechanic tell you other wise, there just looking for money and your looking for more then just a timing chain being replaced.
You can bet that chain, chain tensioner, timing gears, water pump and might even throw in a cam replacement will be in his recommendation.
Thank you for using fixya and be safe.

94 lincoln town car timing chain prob.help!

First, the timing chain runs from the crank around the gears on both cylinder heads. There may be 2 chains. What it does is keep the closing and opening of the valves "in time" with the compression and exhaust stroke of the combustion chamber (pistons).
No compression on the entire left side is not good. If right side is okay then you have 2 chains one for each side. Left side chain must be broke or damaged.
To check the compression without using air , someone had to turn the crank over. If this was done with a bad or broke chain you may have bent valve(s) as well meaning cylinder head rebuilding or replacement.
If you plan on keeping the car for a while consider replacing or rebuilding the engine.
