How to pull the gear off the bottom of the crank shaft right before it goes into the block.

That is attached to the crankshaft pulley. The bolt has to be removed then gently pry the pulley off the crank.

How do I line up the marks for the cam pulley for the Mazda Rustler 1.6 carb to set the correct timming


that little arrow that is cast into the back plate at 12 oclock behind the cam gear should be lined up with a mark between the teeth when the piston is at TDC the crank shaft mark is in line with the keyway in the shaft and will line up with a make ( pointer )in the case behind the bottom gear
to make it easy there should be a small notch in the slinger behind the gear
it is an intereference engine so make sure that the tappet adjustments are let right of so that when turning the cam or crank , the valves will not move and bend on the pistons
the length of the tension spring should be 2.52 " overall length and if not --replace the spring
replace the tension pulley as well
on the long side of the belt opposite the tension pulley apply a load of 22 lbs ( spring balance pulling on the belt) and a deflection of .44-.51" will indicate the correct tension on the belt

I have a revtech 2003 100" 4x4 engine the crank snapped off on the oil pump side any idea why ???


crank shafts snap from bad machining ---block out of align bending the crank while turning--excessive rpm's-- crank shaft unbalanced
Bad machining is where the radius at the point where there is a right angle change of direction and there is not a small radius at that point --stress build up at that point creates cracks and failure.
block out of alignment means that the block has to be line bored to make all the bearings exactly in the same line ( possibly a main cap was installed incorrectly)
Excessive rpm's will crack a crank shaft if it is a dropped forged crank and not a high rpm billeted steel crank
Crank shaft unbalanced from flywheel and balancing shafts not properly timed

As you look at engine from timing belt side by where the drive shaft runs at back of engine around four inches back there is a small 10mm bolt that goes into the engine block undo this and that is where the pin goes don't forget that the crank pulley gear is free wheeling so make sure you use a new crank bolt and use correct torque setting

How do you set the timing when installing new timing belts


Depending on make and size of engine u need to get the #1 piston at tdc top dead center u do this by taking the spark plug out of the #1 cylinder put yure finger in sparkplug hole and turn cranshaft till u feal yure finger being pushed out by compression now take a straw and put it in the spark plug hole u will need a breaker bar on larger engines to turn the crank with the bolt on the pully small 4 cyl u can turn it by hand once u feal the straw being pushed out of the whole turn the crankshaft back and forth to get the straw exactly where its all the way up just before it goes back down yure at tdc now on the gears there is a dot or a mark on the front side line them up using a straight edge line them up so both marks are on the inside facing one another pull both gears out leave the bigger of the two on the shaft place the belt on the smaller of of the cam shaft now u want to put the belt on the bottom side of larger gear and try and get the teeth so the top and bottom gear marks line up again when u push cam gear on splean of cam shaft if they apear to b lined up a little at a time push crankshaft gear n a bit then cam shaft gear switching between the two till they are all the way seated and there u go

How do i know if i have my timing chain on correct?


okay first you make sure the timing marks on the pullys or gears are lineing up also you find #1 cylinder pull out spark plug place a long phillips head scew driver into the hole turn the main crank it should rise and fall get the lower part of the engine to where the scew driver stops rising and right before it falls you should be at top dead center on the lower part of the engine. turn the cam shaft till the timing mark on the pully or gear is at top dead center (TDC). but you should have timing marks on the crank shaft pully and the cam shaft gear or pully I recomend a chiltons or haynes manual so you can locate these marks.

I have a 1993 dodge dakota LE 2 door A/T v-8 magnum s wheel drive. It is missing an i dont know why, i have replaced the plugs plug wires distributer cap fuel filter, what could be the reason, also the...


rpms are about right. those engines have a plate that is bolted to the underside of the intake and its the size of the intake the gasket for them blows out all the time causing oil consumption and misses.
easy check is pull pcv valve from engine and vent hose from other valve cover. start engine and block both valve cover holes with your fingers or whatever has to be a good seal. after after 30 seconds remove one finger from hole. if air rushes into valve cover that means there is a vacuum inside crank case and the only place it could come from is that plenum gasket.
remove plenum[intake] and replace gasket.
other problem that is common is a worn out block bushing.its the bronze bushing that the oil pump drive shaft goes through.
to check remove dist cap, place the tip of screw driver on the rim of distributor were the center of the rotor tip is then rotate dist rotor back and forth to check the slack. if its more than 1/16 of an inch then the block bushing is worn if like 1/8 or more then the oil pump drive shaft gear will be ground down pretty bad the cam gear usually is ok but i have seen a couple get ruined. remove gear and pull out bushing with a puller that cuts threads into the bushing. there is a special tool kit for this but you can make you own except for the burnisher wich you really dont need.
that bushing cause all kinds of havac from misses to extreme backfireing to wont run.

Knocking in the bottom of ford 5.4 liter engine


If you hear it knocking no bearing replacement is going to fix that long term. Its best to pull it, the crank shaft will have to be turned or polished and or replaced, weather its a rod or a maine, and posibly line boared if its a maine thats knocking. Do it right and pull it.

Toyota hilux 1984 timing


looking at the gears the upper one is on the gear its a dot. it goes flush with the valve cover mating surface to the right. gear on the right lower has a line and it goes pointed up with a mark on the block. crank gear has a v grove and an arrow on the block just under idler adj good luck man mark as fixed thanks

How to replace timing belt on 1997 kia sportage


you have 2 sprokets to worry about the top two and crank gear, the crank gear has knocht on it and index on block ( towards back of gear visible from top) place on tdc mark ( top dead center), install the timing belt on this gear first then secure it with a piece of hose or anything that fits in between housing and belt to secure belt from moving from gear) then align the right side sproket on "E" for exhaust cam at top marks on cover and sprocket, then install belt over that sprocket, finally align left side sprocket "I" for intake to the top mark and install belt not too tight or it will make noise just make sure it is firm. now to double check from left to right with you standing in front of vehicle you should have left cam sprocket with "I" for intake to the top and right sproket with "E" for exhaust to the top. having bottom gear on tdc (top dead center mark) and all marks lined up with belt installed and proper tension secured, turn engine over twice and make sure marks meet in the same place then put everything back together. ( recommend you replace both idler and tension pulleys and check water pump, replace if needed or you'll be back.- this procedure goes the same to spectra, sephia, sportage, you will not damage the engine on these vehicles if belt goes out except rio. if timing belt goes out on the rio it will need an engine, if lucky just head. recommended replacement on all is every 60k miles) goo luck tightening the power steering drive belt when you put everything back together, just use a long bar to pry and good leverage. and a second hand comes in handy.
