The most copmmon cause of this is that the drivers door lock actuator switch is defective, disconnect it and see if the problem stops, if it does replace the switch, it is held into the door by spring clips gently pry it out of th door panel

If u are unable to remove the lock switch u will have to remove the door panel to access the switch. to remove the door panel go to this site. The instructions are fro a replacement of the window regulator but the instructions for the door panel removal are there as replacing the window regulator involves the door panel coming off..

How to get into programming mode to program a remote?

Few Toyota models came equipped with remote door locks before 2008 - surprisingly!

Your car may not have the radio receiver to work with door locks. In that case, you need the radio and some wireing to pair with your remotes.

1998 Durango doors don't stay locked.

There's a sensor or switch in the ignition cylinder that is there to keep you from locking the doors using door switches when the key is in the ignition. This is performs just like you are describing. The doors will lock then immediately unlock. Maybe the sensor/switch in your ignition keylock is bad or disconnected somehow.

Best of luck
