Driver's side rear brake light replacement 2001 A4
How do I get the "cover" off the trunk side of the driver's rear brake light assembly? The passenger side wasn't difficult but the driver's is a different shape piece. I'm talking about the 'carpeted' piece.

1) Open trunk
2) Remove small round plastic access panel with a flat tip screw driver by prying open
3) Remove flat tip screw holding tail light assembly
4) Remove tail light assembly by pulling outward, careful not to break plastic guide/nub
5) Disconnect wiring connectors
6) Remove plastic housing access plate on back of tail light assembly by twisting/turning tabs until they click and then lift access plate from tail light assembly
7) When viewing the the bulbs, the turn signal bulb is the bottom left bulb
8) Install in reverse order, ensuring tail light seal seats properly during installation
Fuse boxes located under dash.under hood.in a small plastic cover on left side kick panel on drivers side.should be marked lights or tail-lts. Is all lights on rear of vehicles out or just one side or part of one side as any lights work fuse is still good.brake lights also if they work fuse good.access bulbs from trunk remove 6 screws pull cover.remove wire plug push light socket in turn back counterclockwise.
Open one of the rear doors of the LS. Position yourself on your knees in the back seat, facing the rear deck or rear dash.
Remove the cover from the high-mount brake light assembly, by hand. Pull the cover toward the front of the vehicle. Do not pull extremely hard, or you will break the clips that mount through the deck from the trunk.
Pull the old light bulbs out of the high-mount assembly. Wrap the new bulbs in a paper tower prior to picking them up. Insert new bulbs into the assembly, by hand. Do not touch the bulb lenses with your hands directly.
Install the high-mount cover onto the rear deck and push the cover toward the rear glass to lock it in place.
Open the trunk and along the bottom of the tail light, there should be a Philips screw securing a cover piece. (your car may or may not have this piece) With the cover off, there will be another 2 screws securing the bottom of the tail light assembly. Remove the screws and pull the bottom out and the top is held in by two retainers that should just slide right out
pop the trunk and you should see two screws along the rear taillight assembly. remove the screws and the taillight assembly should pop out. you can then twist the bulb and pop it out along with the harness, put the new bulb in and reverse.
If it's your 3rd brake light, the bolts holding it in against the rear window will be found inside your trunk along the top side of your trunk (get in and look up)
on the side or the rear in the trunk you will see a small round piece that you can pull out you will need long phillips once you remove screw VERY carefully pull the light out the entire assembly there are two knobs that hold the light assembly in and if pulled to hard it WILL brake. good luck hope that helps
Inside the boot is a plastic cap embeded in the boot liner. Remove the cap to reveal a screw. Undo the screw and the whole rear light cluster will come away in a sideways and not rearward direction to reveal all of the bulbs. Hope this helps.
