1 1/2 TO 2 hours worth of work. Since you have to pull the serpentine belt to get to the timing belt you might as well do that one while you are at it. When I do the timing belt I replace the idler pulleys, tensioner and water pump all at the same time. www.FCPGroton.com is a great place to buy the parts, they sale the timing belt, pulleys, tensioner and waterpump as a kit. Here's a good pictoral on the work: http://volvospeed.com/Repair/timingbelt.php

I have a 1999 volvo s80t,I suspect that timing belt broke. Does this mean that the engine is damaged and is it a interference or non interference engine

If the time belt has broken or even slipped it is very likely the engine is damaged. The cam stops turing leaving some valves open or part open. The pistons will still be going up or down and will hit te valve. It might be the engine jams and won't turn. Either way chances are a few of the valves will be bent and need to be changed. If the pistons are ok I would suggest a breakers yard head. Agree with last poster - change the water pump. It is driven by the same belt. False economy not to.

Does the 2006 Volvo S40 1.8L petrol have cam belts or timing chain?

This model has one belt for the cam drive system, along with an oil-filled pretensioner. Additionally, these models have VVT (Variable Valve Timing) which consists of a PWM (Pulse Width Modulated) valve and associated plumbing to the hydraulic tappets. This system increases or decreases the amount of TDC overlap (cam timing) based on driving conditions resulting in enhanced performance and lowered emissions. The caveat is that one must be diligent about oil changes and usage of the proper weight oil to avoid clogging of the oil feeds to the tappets.

When should you change cam belt on volvo s60

Well, most belt companies and aftermarket folks recommend 60,000 to 80,000 miles on a timing belt. You have an interference engine which means if the belt breaks while the engine is running it could damage the valves and pistons. So I would recommend doing it soon.

I need to change the timing belt on my 93 940 volvo

This is definitely not ajob for the beginner. The cams will need to be locked down with a special tool. If they move at all, your timing will be way out and you will have some serious trouble on your hands. Either take it to a dealer or a shop that works on Volvo. Most shops will turn down a timing belt job on a Volvo. When replacing the timing belt, you also need to replace the water pump, front crank seal, both cam seals, and im not 100% sure but I think the 940 has a balance shaft belt that will need to be replaced. I may be wrong about the balance shaft belt. The total cost of this job will be from 800.00 to 950.00 depending on the shop

Volvo V 70 TD Auto 1999 year

Go to www.FCPgroton.com and enter your make and year, then check under timing components. They sale a few different kits for this job. I would recommend doing the timimg belt, idler pulley, tensioner, water pump at serpentine belt at a minimum. you can check and see if you need to do the cam seals also one of their kits includes all these. I would only do those if they were leaking.
