Hi,

irst off you need to verify that you have voltage at the big red wire at the back of the alternator. If not, there is a fuse link in line that could have burnt out.
Second, if you do have voltage, check the engine compt fuse block fuse #6 and #16 {both 15 amps} If these are fine, next step is have the charging system checked.

Your charging system on this model is designed to operate on a need basis only. Think of a battery as a full glass of water, as the water drains, the PCM {engine computer} will command the alternator to charge it back up. If there is a load on the vehicle, {lamps, A/C, etc} the PCM will command the alt on.

If the "at home" checks, check out, time to get a test to determine if the alt is bad or the PCM is not commanding.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Car shut off while driving. now after it has been parked for 8 hrs, getting no response at all. charing system failure warning came on. as well as going into battery saving mode.

Just based upon the information provided it appears that either you lost your alternator belt, or that the alternator went out on your car. (this would include the connector coming loose on the alternator)

I would suggest that you just take the battery out & get it tested and charged if possible, you'll need a fully charged battery to test the charging system and to get the car to start. If the belt is not missing or off track, when you install the battery & start the car, if the alternator light comes on, the alternator more than likely will need to be replaced. You of course could take the alternator off & take it to the auto parts store for testing while they charge your battery overnight free. (autozone & others) That will more than likely provide you with the answer to your problem. Good Luck

Remote start not working 2006 grand prix

To get the remote start going again, I remembered a time when my Explorer phob would not open the doors automatically, I was told to insert the key and toggle it from off to "run" (not starting it, but having the radio and lights come on) position about 4 - 5 times to reset it. I tried that with the car, and it worked!!

Thanks,
Jane
