Question about 2000 Suzuki Esteem

1 Answer

Broken door Same problem. I have a 2000 Suzuki Esteem GL. A year ago the driver's door handle broke. Heard a sound and then it was loose. Could not open it from outside. Had to open front passenger door, open the driver's door from inside and then go out again to enter from the driver's door. FRUSTRATING. My mechanic had to take the door apart to fix it. Just a week ago, my front passenger door died on me. Can't open it from outside nor inside. The door won't open. This is such a stupid problem that costs lots to repair. Never will buy a Suzuki again. Had too many problems with it (had to fix gas tank, doors that won't open, front axle...).

Sorry...did not realize I was at the wrong place.

My question is: What to do with the front passenger door that won't open from inside nor outside? Is there something I can do to fix this without going to the dealership?

    Thanks.

Unfortunately, door handles are subjected to very large forces, especially when someone who is used to a much harder door to open uses one that only needs a fraction of that force to open. The handle goes straight to its stops and all the rest of the energy has to go somwhere - generally into the plastic lever that is only as thick as a pencil. Are you the first owner from new? As for "having too many problems", I know many people who would swap broken door handles and worn CV joints or split boots with you just so that you can deal with their serious, undiagnosable problems instead! You just have to see some of the questions posed by frustrated car owners on sites such as this to be made aware that you are probably fairly lucky. I tend to be biased though, as my family and I have owned Suzukis since 1985, and we wouldn't have kept going back for more if they wrere really that bad! Good luck.

1998 Isuzu Rodeo Drivers Outside Door Handle doesn't work

The door skin needs to be removed you will need 1/4" drive ratchet, extensions, metric box end wrenches, a long needle nose pliers, screw drivers,a pro pick set and some mechanical ability, verify the linkage is intact, if it is you probably have a broken handle, if the outer handle is broke E-Bay has them new and used or you can go the dealer route. the time to repair is usually 1 to 2 hours. Broken subframeon my esteem. Is there a recall or any compensation. The car was in good shape and now it seems to be worthless. This doesn't seem reasonable.

hello everybody,
I had the same problem on a 2000 suzuki esteem and I checked with the dealer. it looks like there are a lot of problems with the subframe, so suzuki extended the warranty to 12 years or 288 k. I know is a late answer, but might help somebody.

How do I fix a broken outer door handle on he drivers side?

Is there anything connecting the handle to the door latch assembly? Is the lock cylinder in the key hole and secured? It just sounds like the linkage may have slipped off the door handle

Driver side door mechanism

Can you open the door with the inside handle? If you can, the problem is probably a broken plastic fitting inside between the outside handle and the door latch. There are door panel removal tools available at your local parts store that look like short handled wide bladed pry bars. You could get by with a good stiff putty knife if needed. Take off the arm rest, window crank, and speaker grill if you have aftermarket speakers. Slide the door panel removal tool under the edge of the door panel and CAREFULLY pop the clips loose from the door frame. You could always leave the window open and do the "Dukes of Hazard" thing, but then you would have to change the paint scheme.

How do I remove the inside of my door panel on my 2001 suzuki esteem?

I have a suzuki esteem 2000 and to remove the inside of the door panel you must first locate the window roll down lever and when you push back on the panel it opeans up a gap between the lever and the panel and if you look there is an axile that connects to the lever and in the lever there is a set of groovs and if you look at the groves there is a snap on ring, you must first push that ring off of the axile which will let you to freelly pull the lever off and then you can locate the screws that also hold the panel on my suzuki I have one on the handle which is covered by a plastic cap and there is also another palstic cap a little lower. After you have freed the screws the rest are just snap on clips you can just pull the panel off.

well hope it was helpfull.
