That is a mechanical speedometer. The cable is connected to the side of the transmission.
Use a graphite lubricant (not a liquid oil) to keep it from sticking. Check the speedometer gear at the transmission.

Remove the speedometer cable and manually turn the cable inside the covering. If the cable turns then the problem is in the transmission. There is a small gear where the cable connects inside the transmission that wears out. Once it does you lose the speedometer. Have this gear replaced or replace it yourself and it should resolve your problem.

Sounds like the wiring harness was damaged or left disconnected when the engine was installed.

2005 FORD MUSTANG--FUEL GAUGE AND SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK--WHAT'S LEAST EXPENSIVE SOLUTION

This is due to a problem with the gears in the speedometer and fuel gauge; there was a manufacturing defect that ford fixed in later years. The cheapest solution is to replace these gauges. I found a local mechanic that knew how to fix it, and did the job for $60. I recommend checking craigslist for a local person, because this is a very common problem.

If your fuel gauge is fine then you can leave it, but I recommend you check it just to be sure.

I have a 2002 Ford Mustang Coupe. The Odometer keeps "going out" and the speedometer will jump when I get to 60-70 MPH. I have about 142,000 miles on the cars. Any suggestions?

could be a fault in the gauge cluster, faulty wiring, or a faulty speed sensor. Check the speed sensor, sometimes known as VSS. Inspect the harness for corrosion and or broken prong.

My speedometer only quit working when it get cold like this every year summer time it work find on my 2005 mustang ??

This is a pretty common issue with the 2005 Mustang speedometers. The reason it's acting up is because the motor that controls the gauge is going bad. There's a DIY guide on how to repair it here - 2005 Mustang Speedometer Problem

Also, you can send it in for repair to a speedometer repair specialist.

My temp gauge and fuel quit working

This is pretty common on the 2005 Mustangs, it's caused by failing stepper motors in the instrument cluster, they control the movement of the gauges. Repair is around $180 and there's a guide on how to fix them yourself here - 2005 Mustang speedometer problem

Fuel gauge and speedometer don't workproperly, had a water leak on the drivers side but got that fixed now the speedometer and fuel gauge problems. Speedometer bounces and the fuel gauge swings sometimes...

Change your fuses your fusebox probably got wet when you had the water leak or if your unlucky it could be a problem with the cars computer but i think they are usually on the passenger side so probably not
