I'm guessing you blew a head gasket. antifreeze could very well be that white smoke you are seeing. that could cause a lean code. get a compresion test done. that will tell you if it's a blown head gasket.

2012 elantra, white smoke and loss of power during heavy acceleration, pinging noise in valves. Does not seem to be losing any coolant

pinging ( detonation) is from lean mixture ( white smoke)( heated oxygen sensor/s in the exhaust manifold /s), incorrect ignition timing
The lack of power could be a valve timing problem from the advance mechanism being faulty
best to have the fault codes read to determine the problem area first

What causes white smoke to come out of the exhaust when I start up my 98 dodge ram 2500 v8 magnum ext please help

white smoke from a cold engine could be water vapour that will disappear when the system gets hot
if it persists it indicates water in the combustion process
have a compression test done for head gasket or cracked head
run the fault codes to check for correct air/fuel mixture sensor operations

Why bmw x5 battery drain fan not working exhaust blowing out white smoke... what may be happening.

White smoke out of the exhaust indicates moisture (water) in the exhaust. If the car is not driven very far each day, some moisture will collect in the muffler and cause white smoke for a short while after starting. If the smoke is continual, however, you need to watch you coolant level as you may have a blown head gasket.

Keep getting P0308 code misfire

A misfire code is set because one of three things is missing or not right: spark, gas, or compression. You checked compression and it's good, equal to the other cylinders? And there is spark on #8? That leaves a fuel problem, then. How does the spark plug look on #8- if the appearance is white, almost a blistered look to the bottom of the plug, that is an indication of lean running- not enough gas in the mixture at that cylinder. You may have an injector problem on #8.

White smoke means lean condition, make sure the car is getting fuel which can be power source to the fuel pump or the pump itself..

Hyundai error code p1128 lean fuel mixture

Hi there:
DTC P1128 is "Long Term Fuel Trim Too Lean"
This means the air/fuel mixture is leaner than the HO2S can compensate for.

This is most often caused by a vacuum leak. It can also be caused by a clogged fuel filter, unmetered air entering the air intake system, leaking exhaust system, canister purge system not operating or a weak fuel pump.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using FixYa, have a nice day.

Smoke coming from exhaust when i start my truck

Hi.

If you have just a bit more of smoke than usual do a code scanning to check if mixture is rich or lean or if there is misfire or other problem that can affect the engine.

Dark thick smoke is symptom of unburned fuel or oil getting into the cylinder. The smoke can be the result of rich mixture, piston ring problems, valve problems, ring problems or misfire. EGR and PCV system problems also result in smoke from exhaust.

If smoke is only at start and it is dark gray it is probably because of incorrect mixture resulting from another problem.

If problem is piston rings or valves the smoke will be black, thick and smelly because oil gets burned in cylinders. The smoke in this case is not only at start.

  1. Check if you have spark in all cylinders.
  2. Check if one or more of the spark plugs is dirtier than the others. That will tell you if problem is with that (or those) cylinders only.
  3. Do a DTC code scanning using an OBDII reader. In US the code can be done for free at Autozone.
Thick white smoke is instead symptom of water (or coolant) getting into the cylinder. Check if the coolant fluid level is going down by itself. Look for traces of fuel in coolant reservoir. Do a compression test to find out if there is head gasket leakage inside the engine.

Regards.

1996 Neon is blowing black smoke from the exhaust.

If good, clean fuel, good spark etc. 171 is lean mixture according to my sources.. Thus I'd say if engine is being told from O2 sensor that mixture is lean, that would explain all the extra fuel getting ( dumped ) fed to engine. I guess i"d start by changing O2 sensor. (Oxygen sensor.) If it has 2, do the one upstream, closest to engine on exhaust manifold or pipe.
