Question about 1996 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

1996 Lesabre Won't Start....

It started off just running rough, it sounded like it was missing, then would crank over, but not start.......finally I pumped it 3 or 4 times, and it started enuff for me to pull it forward about 20 feet....now it won't even crank....almost like it is locked up.......it's holding at 9 volts which should be enuff to at least turn it over......

Thanks in Advance....

Sounds like the upper intake is leaking coolant into the combustion chamber. Pull out a couple of sparkplugs to see if coolant comes out. Be careful because you may break the starter due to coolant in the cylinder. Replace upper intake plasstic manifold.

year make and model ?
You can have fuel but not enough pressure. And you could have a lack of spark even with replacing ignition parts.
It will be tough to figure out if you can't duplicate the problem on demand. You need to know if you are missing spark or fuel when it fails to start to know what to test.
Running rough when it starts sounds like too much or too little fuel.

91 chevy cav z24 5 spd will not start @ times sounds like no fire other times sounds like no fuel.Replaced fuel pump, timing chain, crankshaft sensor, oil sensor, map sensor, body throttle accel sensor.st

Pull the air cleaner off and crank the engine. If puffs of air come come out of the throttle body when cranking the engine then the timing is not set correctly. Otherwise, after cranking pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel and if so this indicates an ignition problem (coil, distributor/cap/rotor or faulty ECU).

1999 GMC Sierra 4.8l running rough now wont start

Recommend starting simple. If you suspect fuel pressure, it might be easier to start with replacing the fuel filter first, and checking fuel pressure at the filter while your there. It will give you a better chance to determine if the problem is at the pump or closer to the intake. If for some reason you have to replace the fuel pump...very common in this model truck because fuel gauge problems, the easiest way to access the pump is to unbolt the truck bed, block it up wood (Significantly easier than dropping the tank. I tilted mine to the passenger side), then you will have easy access to the pump. CAUTION!!! The connectors on the pump are brittle and break easily, especially in a vehicle this old. It's very difficult to get replacements, so take your time to prevent breaking fuel connections.

Whats wrong with my 1984 ford bronco running rough?

It sounds like there could be a miss. A miss is when the timing of one or more cylinders is off, causing it to run rough and sometimes shake badly. Im not positive it's a miss, but if the distributor or distributor cap is bad, it could cause it to start weird and run rough. It could also be the spark plugs and/or spark plug wires. There could also be carbon build up in the carburetor. I hope this helps. Sorry it's so vague, but without actually being there, its hard to say for sure.

Hello dj, sounds like you may have some wires crossed and the ignition timing is off. Check the plug wires to make sure they are in the correct order--- 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 is the firing order on the 5.8 litre engine. If you removed the distrubutor, the timing will have to be reset.
Good luck, i hope this helps.

I suggest testing the fueling system, it sounds like you are losing pressure during shutdown. the start procedure that you describe would allow the fuel system to repressurize.

Hook up pressure gauges and test the system against specs., but then compare pressure during shutdown.

Pretty early for a fuel pump issue..I presume that you have changed the fuel filter...

Sounds like the fuel pump is going out. Its inside the tank. But first see if the fuel pump is clooged. take it off and see if its plugged. Check fuel pressure if you can. should be 45-55 psi
