If it is low enough the pick up in the tank may not be able to pick up the gas anymore while driving. The "sock" in the tank could be worn or dirty, the pump pressure could be low. There are many things you could check and many are due to age. But check fuel filter and fuel pressure and go from there.

You should be very thankful that your fuel pump has endured this punishment. fuel pumps don't usually last long when you they are starved of fuel. fuel pumps heat up and burn out, get out of that habit our you will have major problems later on.

My 2001 Grand am Se keeps going dead on me while I stop. What is causing this? My husband has changed my fuel filter and also added some Seafoam to my gas tank and my car is still dying on me. It will...

try checking air filter and the box it's in and the hose leading to the engine.this i believe is vacuum problem.if there is a leak,it will stall at low speed.if not that, pcv valve or vacuum lines.if you need to figure out what's what, local libraries usually have haynes manuals with everything about the car.auto idles usually don't give problems, but if nothing else works it could be that.gas is made clean enough these days so that it should not be a gas related issue.

Quit running while driving. Battery not dead. Not out of gas.

sounds like the fuel pump is the problem, they start running slow many times before the finally quit, this causes low fuel press and the symptom's you describe, have the fuel press checked under a load..

Similar thing happened to me, but it ended up being a clutch on its last legs....Since you have an automatic, I'd guess its your Mass Air Flow sensor or throttlr body.
