According to the GM factory service manual, the OBD-II trouble code, P1336, is defined as follows: DTC P1336 CKP System Variation Not Learned. The factory service manual does not enumerate all of the symptoms of this trouble code, but after consulting a professional custom PCM tuner, it was learned that aside from the annoying light on the instrument cluster, the other symptoms exhibited may include: poor vehicle performance, and loss of misfire detection diagnostics.

This DTC is particularly nasty, because simply clearing it by disconnecting the battery, or clearing it using an OBD-II scan tool will not address the problem. The code will be set again later unless the vehicle is run through the actual “crank relearn” procedure.

There is only one way to properly fix the P1336 DTC, and that’s to perform a “crank relearn” procedure, or as the GM factory service manual procedure calls it, the CKP System Variation Learn Procedure. This procedure can be initiated and performed by GM’s be-all end-all scan tool, the Tech-2. It can also be performed by some aftermarket scan tools. Furthermore, some of the PCM tuning software applications are capable of initiating a “crank relearn” procedure.

For most enthusiasts that encounter this issue, the best course of action is to bring the vehicle to a local GM dealership and have them perform the procedure. Unfortunately most dealerships will charge a modest fee for doing this (upwards of USD $100 in some cases).

Obd2 codes p0401 and p1744


P1744 -transmission intermittent/torque converter is a manufactures code;they have that problem,like the wipers coming on.
P0401-egr valve flow insufficient;replace or remove,spray B-12 on and around all openings;clean let dry new gasket.

never mind the diagnostic code reader ,this miss could be anything so i would do a diagnostic check with no meter as europeon cars cannot be read with the OBDII but with my scope and volt meter ,clue first thing i would check is the mass air flow meter ,

Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' (Service Engine Soon) light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE the problem and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

No power at the obdc for 2006 silverado 1500


I checked the manual, and there is no listing of a fuse for the OBDII connector port, but I think at one time I found a blown cigarette lighter fuse also powered the diagnostic port. Unfortunately, I believe that was a Ford, so it probably won't help, but is worth checking.
Next thing to check is the scan tool you are using. Look up the manufacturer of the scan tool to make sure it is compatible with your 06 chevy. I have heard of problems accessing GM diagnostic ports with a number of scanners. You may have to try a different code scanner, or bring it to a GM dealer. Let me know how you make out.

Car won't start. Have replaced plugs and oil filter. AA repair man checked plugs and got a shock.


Four elements must be present for engine operation: 1. Fuel, 2. Air Flow, 3. Ignition (spark), 4. Cylinder Compression (assuming everything is in time/synchronized). Did the Check Engine light come ON? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/saved in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what it/they is/are, then perhaps we can help you. Otherwise, take/tow the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

It's not a matter of how many miles, it's more "how" you drive. If you do not have an engine light on now, whatever you do, DON'T disconnect the battery. That will trip all your readiness monitors and make it more difficult to complete the drive cycle. If you have a code set now and the engine light is on, it would be best to get the car scanned and find out how to repair the problem or you are going to waste a lot of time and money driving around and going to the test to get rejected. If there is no light on but you have made a repair and cleared the codes, this is how to drive the car to reset the readiness monitors.

Performing a GM OBDII Driving cycle:

  1. Cold Start. In order to be classified as a cold start the engine coolant temperature must be below 122°F (50°C) and within 11°F (6°C) of the ambient air temperature at startup.
    Do not leave the key in prior to the cold start or the heated oxygen sensor diagnostic may not run.
  2. Idle. The engine must be run for two and a half minutes with the air conditioner on and rear defroster on. The more electrical load you can apply the better. This will test the O2 heater, Passive Air, Purge "No Flow", Misfire, and - if closed loop is achieved- Fuel Trim.
  3. Accelerate. Turn off the air conditioner and all the other loads and apply half throttle until 55mph (88km/hr) is reached. During this time the Misfire, Fuel Trim, and Purge Flow diagnostics will be performed.
  4. Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 55mph (88km/hr) for 3 minutes. During this time the O2 response, air Intrusive, EGR, Purge, Misfire, and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
  5. Decelerate. Let off the accelerator pedal. Do not shift, touch the brake or clutch. It is important to let the vehicle coast along gradually slowing down to 20 mph (32km/hr). During this time the EGR, Purge and Fuel Trim diagnostics will be performed.
  6. Accelerate. Accelerate at 3/4 throttle until 55-60mph (88-96 km/hr). This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 3.
  7. Hold Steady Speed. Hold a steady speed of 55mph (88km/hr) for five minutes. During this time, in addition to the diagnostics performed in step 4, the catalyst monitor diagnostics will be performed. If the catalyst is marginal or the battery has been disconnected, it may take 5 complete driving cycles to determine the state of the catalyst.
  8. Decelerate. This will perform the same diagnostics as in step 5. Again, don't press the clutch or brakes or shift gears.

If the MIL(Engine Light) is on and the engine runs there are two possibility's
1. cam-crank timing off
2. crank sensor has noise in the signal
