Question about 2005 Volkswagen Microbus
I reversed out of a parking bay, when stoped to cjange gear, the gear stick became loose, could not find 1st or 2nd gear, had to drive off in 3rd or 4th, cant find reverse and is dificult to find 5th, once in gear van drives well, though the gear stick is loose even in gear, feels either the box has dropped away from stick, or the stick has lost its linkage.,,,there was no noticable noise when first noticed problem, and when changing gear there is no crinding or unusual noise, also when in drive no unusual noise..???
Sounds like a piece of linkage came loose. If it were an internal tranny problem, doubtful that the stick would be loose. Examine all linkage for something very obvious.

Most gear box's have a simple but for the novice difficult looking gear box and linkage ,,how ever you linkage seems to have move or even broke ,,,there are 2 washers ion a gear box ,,,that do wear down they are not difficult to remove and replace but brother they are hard to obtain new one''s if you get them make sure you have your gear box in 5th gear before you attempt to remove them ok gives you more room in that gear to remove old washers and you should see the diffrance then ok
