NO LOW IN OIL WOULD LOCK IT UP.

Your problem sounds like either if in top gear then its the worn bulking ring /worn scrinco gear/selector spring and ball/worn linkage and if ialso in other gears apart from top then it could be the input shaft bearing or the layshaft bearings

Q do you get any noise going in or out of gears

and where dose the clutch drive at 1" off the floor or 1" from the top of pedal travel What gear/where is clutch drive/any noise

    Let me know Ron

I suddenly lost 4th gear and reverse, what would cause that, i dont believe i am low on tranny fluid(gear oil) but im not sure, but, i was told that there is an adjustment on the shift linkage, but that is...

Its a sylinoid and that is located inside tranny pan. Or its bent linkage. Only way to know for sure is go in and see. Does your car have a anallisus hook up? If so then the code will tell you where the problem is. Hook er up and find out first, tranny work aint cheep. I just put one in the other day. Boss charged 2800 for the job. Good Luck.

I have a 95 eclipse 2.0L nonturbo...the car will shift thru all the gears but wont move.....what could cause this?

if it is a standard transmission then it sounds as if the clutch and possibly pressure plate need replacing or adjusting. if it is an automatic then it sounds like it has gone out.

if a clunking noise is heard then it could be the cv joints or shafts .

sorry I couldn't clear it up more

hope this helps.

What are some issues to look for that would cause car not to move in any gear, but you can feel it wants to go when raising rpms. Could this be the trans is gone or something minor. Helping a friend and...

Lets assume the park brake is off. If you put it in gear, forward or reverse and the engine revs but care doesn't move, you are either very low on automatic transmission fluid or the transmission is burned up. Check the fluid level. If normal smell the fluid. If it smells burned, there is no doubt that the transmission is burned up.

Just replaced trannie(auto) in 1993 escort, it has a little hesitation when shifting gears and the new oil smells burnt and is frothy on the tip. the level is low could the low fluid level be the problem?

YES! But your tranny has a BAND for first gear, and clutches for 2nd, third, and if equipted, 4th. The bands are usually the cause of the "burnt smell." The foam is cause by fluid aggitation. DO NOT JUST ADD FLUID. Drain the fluid in the tranny case, and replace the filter, and the fluid. I suspect that the salvaged tranny may have a burned 1st gear band.

2001 mitsubishi eclipse. Automatic transmission

Transmission may be low on transmission fluid or the transmission fluid pump failed. If it's electrical, you can still get it in to gear, but would not shift gears. Good luck and keep me posted, check transmission fluid level and have the transmission line pressure tested. Before that check all your fuses.

  • you might have lost first gear. check transmission fluid to see how dirty it is if real dirty or may be low. sounds like transmission fluid was low and burnt first gear out.

u check the fluid by taking off the fill bolt and putting your finger in if u can touch fluid ur good if not u should add some. u can buy a tube from a parts store. it screws onto the top of the bottle and u let it go in.
