By the sound of it you have a problem like the Plugs
you fitted were either the gap was either to big or to small so remove them again and recheck the gaps and set to 25 thou (thats about the same thicknessas the thickness of a tissue box) and also check the plug leads {dont put any lead to anyother plug than the one it goes to.
Firing order is 1342 in that order.

Idles smooth, sputters coming from muffler like its running on one cylinder

Hi T:
Interesting as smooth idle and sputter are contra-indications.
- Smooth idle should be healthy
- Sputter could indicate problem:
- mis-fire? Possible bad spark plug or bad exhaust valve. Pull spark plugs to check to see if any are fouled. Compression check will help depermine why fouling is happening.
How many cylinders?
How many Km on engine?
With engine hot, Remove oil filler cap and see if any vapour indicating blow by (bad rings)
My suggestion?
Do some more checking and reply as a comment on this post. Will assist if I can.

When does the spark plugs needs to be change

Usually you know when you need sparkplugs when it starts to miss. That is it runs smooth then kinda skips, runs smooth, then skips. Spark plugs will not cause your engine to cut off completly. Could be a coil problem or a fuel system problem. I would check fuel filter or fuel pump.

Why does 1988, 911 engine miss fire? what could be the cause of the problem? when I change the spark plug no 2 and 6 there are traces of oil but after replacing the spark plugs it runs smoothly again

It sounds like your spark plugs were fouled. Does it keep happening? If so, you may have low compression and oil is blowing through. If it only happened that one time then I wouldn't worry about it. It happens after a while.

Changed spark plugs and wires. Now at a stop the vehicle conks out while in drive

Is the engine running VERY smooth at an idle? if it is not , and I suspect it isn't, then you crossed 2 spark plug wires.

I got a 1999 ford ranger with a 2.5l it runs smooth at idle, an runs smooth while drive but bad fuel economy. when u rev up at idle an let go of the throttle it runs rough an then smooths out. ive...

You have two coils on this engine. Test each wire for spark with the engine running. You'll find at least one wire not sparking. replace the coil that has the wire that's not sparking.

My audi 1995 2 6 quattro is lackin power runs fine tho

1. When idle, listen to the engine and see if there is any miss fire. If you hear some misses, not a smooth run, it means either you have to replace the spark plugs because one or more are not working or one of the leads to the spark plugs isn't connecting properly. It is recommended you change the spark plugs every 10.000 miles given it's a 15 years old car.
2. If there's a smooth idle run, then there might be something wrong with the fuel pump (which is located close to the fuel tank under the car) or with the air valve which is located near the engine, both can be clogged not passing enough fuel or air required.

Changing spark plugs.engine not idling properly

Just did this 3 days ago. Went smooth heard many horror stories about it though . Also after I removed the computer to reach the back passenger side plug and put it all back together idle is very low @600 RPM but runs smooth.
I would look up the recommended procedure for changing plugs before attempting

Rough(missing) when cold. Smooths out a little after warming up.

It is not unlikely a plug wire got put back on on the wrong plug. These cars will still run with a few plugs wrong.
