Question about Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

G'day....I need help in a problem that has happened, I put to much oil in the engine of my 93 Hilux 2.8 Diesel and I drove abot 10 klms and the engine reved out severly and tonns of white smoke came from the exhaust and it would not turn off when I turned it off with the key, boy did I do a runner, it ran for nearly a minute before it turned itself off but it would not turn over when i tried to start it so I let it cool for about 40 minutes and it started again but now there is a knocking sound which seems like it is coming from the top front area of the motor, I drained the oil and there was very little metal shavings in the oil and I took the top off and the camshaft looks fine and no metal parts in that area, there doesn't seem to be any seal damage as there was no leaking when I checked in the morning the next day, the motor still turns over and starts fine no problem but the knocking sound is there and it will sometimes go away and come back after a few seconds and it is in time with the speed of the engine so if I rev it the knocking goes faster and gets louder and will sound for nearly 10 seconds then go away for about 5 seconds then come back, would anybody know what damage may have been done and could anybody please help as I am on a pension and am trying to fix this if I can, the knocking sounds like hitting a screwdriver on metal. Thankyou.....Colin

PLEASE HELP. OPEL CORSA 1.7 DIESEL WON'T START> It would not start after a sound that came from the front that sound like a tyre was defalting. I am not sure if it's the diesel pump?

Hi, it sound like you drove your car without water or Oil. check if the car has water or oil, if you drove it without water your head will need to be checked and serviced, if you drove without oil you will need to redo the whole engine

08 Petrol Hilux. stuck diesel in. it taken to mechanics they drained tanks, replaced fuel filter blew out lines and coolers had for a day engine light came on flat battery. Any ideas of problem??

If you realised it was diesel before you started to drive it probably wouldn't have taken long to rectify. Small amounts of diesel (or petrol in diesel) does not cause much of a problem and with care as much as 10% can be "got away with".

If you drove until it either stopped or was running so badly you couldn't proceed the problem becomes greater.

I doubt the mechanics removed the injectors and flushed them and so they probably kept cranking until the battery was almost discharged before the engine started.

The engine light fault will need checking with an obd scanner to discover the cause. Taking a wild guess it could be the oxygen sensor which is likely to complain bitterly about being bombarded with unburned and burning oil (diesel).

Good luck!

What is the engine oil capacity for a2014 hilux

I bought a Hilux 3.0 diesel last year, and it's just had it's 10k service at a little under 6 months, with no problems. However the dealer was saying it will need it's next service at 15,000Km which seems very early for a brand new diesel that isn't doing any real heavy towing or anything. I

Does a toyota hilux surf 1995 diesel have spark plugs and points as in the days of yore??

Diesel engines don't have spark plugs. They use compression and heat to fire the diesel. Most diesel engines have glow plugs which are designed to preheat the combustion chamber to help burn the diesel fuel when you start it up. Hope this helps.

Biofuel

It's possible your Hilux would run on that blend, but I don't believe Toyota would honor any warranty repairs (if you have any warranty). The cooking oil would have to be filtered to remove any particles, contaminants, or moisture before using it as these things would cause problems with your fuel system. Cooking oil will also gel up as the weather cools, so you would have to find a way to warm the oil to prevent that from happening. You would also have to find a way to keep the cooking oil and diesel fuel from separating.
