Question about 1998 Chevrolet C/K 3500
I just purchased a one ton 1998 Chevy Express work van with a 5.7 liter engine and automatic transmission. The day I first took a look at the van it died while it had been idling fine. I was talking with the seller and noticed it quit while we were talking.
As it took me a couple of months to gather the cash for the purchase the van sat. I actually had forgotten about the stall on that day because the van did run excellent and got a super deal on it and a complete carpet cleaning set up for only $3,300! Since I picked it up I have driven it problem free for 4 days of heavy carpet cleaning as well- the van's engine also powers the PTO driven Steam Genie carpet cleaner on board. It really is a strong engine with no exhaust fumes, coolant leaks, or oil burning whatsoever.
So this morning I started the van and after idling for 5 minutes it suddenly died. I was able to restart it about 30 minutes later and go do my carpet job, but on the way home it died again. It cranks, but spraying starter fluid during the cranking it does nothing. It sounds like it wants to go, but now it won't restart beyond a couple of hesitations during cranking it, with or without starter fluid. On the way to the job I did today it did die on the highway, but fortunately restarted while coasting over to the slow lane. It's funny because after this I was able to do my carpet job with no problems until I headed back home when it finally quit again. This is where I've left off until I can drive back to where it is tomorrow.
Thanks for any help. I figure I can start with checking for spark and the obvious. Are there any modules etc. that can be eliminated since it is a sporadic issue and not an all or nothing symptom?
Vacuum leak at throttlebody, check dist.cap wires, bad spark plugs also check vacuum hoses
