Question about 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse
I have a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse. There is this rattling under my car and it sounds like its right in the back of the motor. It really happens when im around 2 to 3 thousand rpms and when im shifting. I already checked all the heat shields. This noise isnt necessarily hurting my car it still runs great and all. I don't know what to do and I am totally out of ideas. Do you have any?
Sounds like it could be the catalytic converter material has broken apart and is rattling in the catalytic converter case. I believe that the converter is mounted just below the engine on that vehicle and is apart of the downpipe on the exhaust and would explain why it sounds like it is right at the back of the motor. If you checked all the heat shields then it sounds like it is the converter to me. There are two problems with that happening...one is it will not pass smog and two if the material from the converter gets lodged in the exhaust the right way it could plug the exhaust flow.
