Question about 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Rattling around the back of the motor

I have a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse. There is this rattling under my car and it sounds like its right in the back of the motor. It really happens when im around 2 to 3 thousand rpms and when im shifting. I already checked all the heat shields. This noise isnt necessarily hurting my car it still runs great and all. I don't know what to do and I am totally out of ideas. Do you have any?

Sounds like it could be the catalytic converter material has broken apart and is rattling in the catalytic converter case. I believe that the converter is mounted just below the engine on that vehicle and is apart of the downpipe on the exhaust and would explain why it sounds like it is right at the back of the motor. If you checked all the heat shields then it sounds like it is the converter to me. There are two problems with that is it will not pass smog and two if the material from the converter gets lodged in the exhaust the right way it could plug the exhaust flow.

There is rattling/clicking sound coming from under my 02 galant. Just replaced both axles but said sound is still there. What is it and what can I do to fix it?

If the sound stops when you lightly apply the brakes it is probably disc brake pads that weren't properly installed and they are rattling now that they are worn down. There should be a clip and disc brake quiet that keeps them attached to the piston cup of the caliper. If not they will rattle back and forth in the distance between the caliper cup and the rotor when the brakes are not applied.

Why won't my car start? It turns over but acts like it's not getting any gas. The A/C was just fixed 5 min prior to this incident.

I would suggest getting in contact with the shop that worked on the A/C. I think I actually would have gotten ahold of them when I heard a rattle.

Anything that goes around may rattle if not aligned. From wheels to, well, you name it. Lots of moving parts under the hood.
A friend of mine had a "rattling" sound from his car when he was backing up. Turned out to be a lose front wheel...

Hollow rattling sound coming from car

It is very likely the exhaust system doing this, put it on a car lift and check for the noise.

My car makes a rattling sound when i acclerate

Lucas is a product which will thicken the oil and add conditioners.
I would just use regular oil, though, as recommended by the manufacturer.

The rattling noise could be a camshaft bearing that is spun, or some half shell bearing inside the engine.

It could just as easily be a part of your exhaust coming loose.

Without being there to see and hear it, I cannot tell you what it is, exactly.

But, at least you have an understanding of what you're up against.

good luck to you.

There is a rattling when i start the truck. its also loud when in first gear to second. sounds toward back of truck. exhaust?

Yes sounds right, if you have recently had exhaust work done or been four wheeling or ran over something in the road something may have gotten bent and is hitting the under carrage,.If it is a higher mileage vehicle (100 K +) it may be the platnum in the catalytic converter is wearing down and rattling in the encasement, that can be tested by getting under the vehicle when it's cold and rapping the cat. converter fairley hard with your hand and listen for a rattling sound.

Mitsubishi Lancer ES '02 - Rattling noise in 1st gear...

I think you might need to ask someone to throttle up the car and you look underneath to try locating the rattling noise. Don't forget that this model runs the exaust pipe in front of the motor so it might be an exaust rattle as well??

Rattling noise over bumps at low speeds

it could be the rail for the seat, try adjusting its layer and tighten it by putting double bushes on the nut and under the rail itself, I have a range rover had similar problem and did it with my grandpa's help, and voila!
