Question about 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

The interior lights do not "time-off" when they are supposed to. I have pulled the fuse for the lights, but would like to fix the problem.I understand it might be a sensor. How would one check the sensors (bearing in mind I am female and NOT mechanically inclined) This just started..and interestingly enough..was right after it was to the mechanic.

No interior lights come on. Check interior light or dome light fuse. If it is good look at replacing the dimmer switch. No gauges, it has a fuse also. If it is just the IP lights. Pull the panel, unplug it and plug it back it. Usually fixes it. If not, broken on the inside of the IP. They can be fixed.

Find the interior fuse box on an Australian 1998 Hyundai Sonata? There should be a panel with a clip out door near/under the steering column put mine does not have one, it is solid plastic panels both

No promises but this is the only reference I could find for Hyundai where the fuse box was not behind a panel to the bottom side of steering wheel. It may inspire you to look elsewhere behind items. Good Luck.

"The interior fuse panel is located behind the coin holder pull out drawer, which is on the lower left side of the dashboard"

You are right... You will need to check your fuses. You can buy a fuse puller and pull each one out to check to see if the metal bar is separated or you can often times just tell by looking at it. Most interior fuses is on drivers side .

Interior Dome Lights will not turn off

The fault is most likely to be the drivers door micro switch.
Open your car door and push the microswitch button in and out a few times. This will probably make the light go off short term.
Long term just replace the switch.

Inside lights stay on

there is also a relay to delay the interior lights that could have failed.
I would check the dash light dimmer first though.. as Waynerd suggests , someone may have turned it up and engaged the switch to turn the interior lights on that way...
The door switches are grounds too... and could have rested to the point of non-contact I suppose.
I'm with wayneard though , on the check the switch on the dash...

Lincoln continental fuses

I have heard there is a door sensor relay that can cause this problem when it goes bad, however i have not been able to locate this relay.

What i did do to better the situation is pull fuse 31 (15amp) out of the fuse pannel under the driver side dash and this will disable all of the interior lights and nothing else. I know this does not fix anything but at least i dont get dead batterys anymore.
