Question about 2003 Ford Ranger Regular Cab

2003 Ford Ranger 4 Cyl 2.3 litre engine

The engine temperature in my Ford Ranger would not rise, hence a very cold ride in October in Canada. I replaced the thermostat assembly. Sure enough the old assembly was broken. Having replaced this assembly the "Check Engine" light is now on (where was that when the thermostat assembly was broken) and there is still no heat. Any thoughts on how to solve this mystery?

The thermostat warms the engine up faster when it is cold out. if no heat in the cab make sure you heater core is hooked up and when you turn the tempeture knob from blue to red it opens a trap door under the dash to let the heat in from the heater core and some have a valve in the heater hose opened and closed by a cable.

Is the blower blowing? if not could be a blown fuse or bad blower. If the blower is working make sure your coolant level is full, If both of theese things check out , you may have a vacume line loose somewhere that controls the duct witch controls it to change to defrost ,vent or hot to cold.

If automatic transmission wont work engine block's are not the same, if stander transmission you could swap out bell housing held on with four bolt's from one to the other. Good luck and hope this was very helpful.

Misfire on number 2 cyl

Cylinders are numbered from front to rear (grille to firewall) passenger side: 1-2-3, driver's side: 4-5-6. Firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6
Did you check by pulling #2 out while the engine is in idle to see no weakness from the engine? BTW your coil pack cost $80.

2002 Ford Ranger surges when air temperature is cold

It could be the air-fuel ratio is too lean and isn't correcting for a low air temperature. I have noticed a couple of Fords doing the same thing, but only at light throttle and the problem disappears as soon as the engine is put under load.

The Ford technical hotline might be able to provide an answer if you can find a mechanic willing to call them on your behalf - they won't talk to unregistered users.
