1.8L stumbles when hit bumps in road. Messed

1.8L stumbles when hit bumps in road. Messed around with distributor goes away for a while. Believe it is electrical not fuel. Changed distributor cap, wires, plugs. Reallly feels like miss fire. Did not change coil. Could spend lots of money changing things...intermitten things are tough to troubleshoot....anybody have similiar problem that a fix really worked. Could it be the connector to the distributor, I did disconnect it and reconnect it during my checks.

Wow, this kind of a problem can drive ya nuts. There are 2 different engines for this car, one is a model 4A-FE and the other is a 7A-FE. The problem sounds like a coil breakdown..I know it sounds nuts because it happens when you hit a bump, but it could be coincidental to a coil breaking down when under load. You will need a decent Ohm Meter to do the following. Check the coil primary resistance [4A-FE & 7A-FE both = 1.11 - 1.75 ohms], then check the secondary resistance [4A-FE & 7A-FE both = 9.0 - 15.7 kilohms]. If either of these values is out of spec, the coil will need to be replaced. If everything is OK, next check the air gap between the signal rotor and the pick up coil projection (CAUTION; use a non-ferrous feeler gauge..ie: paper, brass or plastic). For a 4A-FE and a 7A-FE engine it should be .008 - .0016 in. If this air gap is not correct you have to replace the distributor housing. I hope that this helps to find / fix, or eliminate the distributor. If all this is OK check the lead wire from the distributor...it could have a broken wire inside of the plastic cover. If still no luck, write back and we'll try again.

When driving my truck and i hit a bump in the road. The truck will jump around on the road until it straightens out again. If I'm in a turn and I hit a bump the truck will jump around until stability.

Hey Alonzo,
One of three things,
1. Your suspension is WAY TOO STIFF!!! ..most likely
2. ALL of your shocks are frozen, which makes it seem like riding in a buckboard wagon
3. The suspension is way TOO soft.. (not likely)

I would start with checking the muffler and pipes to see if they move when u push on them. Make sure car has set for a while so u don't get burned

My 1999 Jeep Wrangler Sport quits momentarily when I hit a bump in the road (paved, not off-road). It starts running again in about a second or two. Computer, maybe?

Why would hitting a bump have anything to do with a computer?

Vehicles hit bumps on every road trip

Computer is a solid state board,no moving parts

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 8L, engine revs while driving, especially on long road trips

THE FIRST THING IS TO HAVE THE COMPUTER SCANNED FOR CODES, THESE CODES WILL HELP IN FINDING PROBLEM, ALSO CHECK THE IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE, AS THIS VALVE CONTROLS THE IDLE AND GOES BAD OFTEN. AND LAST TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT VACCUM LINES FOR LEAKS, MOVE THEM AROUND AND LISTEN FOR A HISSING NOISE. GOOD LUCK.

Vibration in steering wheel when a bump or other object in the road is hit

You probably have a worn tie-rod. Jack one side of the car up at a time so that one front wheel is off the ground. Grab the wheel and try to turn it back and forth. You should not feel any play. When you find a wheel with play, reach around the wheel with one hand and grab the inner tie rod and hold it still while pushing and pulling on the wheel. If the play goes away, replace the inner tie rod end. If it does not go away, replace the outer tie rod end.

Shakey sterring during turns and hitting bumps.

1. You might wanna take a look at your brake system, brake disk and pads.

2. The steering rack must have gone bad though it might just be the packing rubbers that are worn; or

3. The tie-rods must have been loose.

Cheers and do rate this solution.

Shuts off will driving, especially if I hit a bumpy road.

check the wires to the fuel pump if they have rubbed against something and the insulation wore through hitting bumps or rain could cause it to short and kick the relay and resets again and will start
