Question about 2005 Jeep Wrangler
one foggy windowed day i press the rear defrost rocker switch to turn it on, and my dome light came on, my gauges went dead, and as soon as i let go of the switch, everything is back to normal, but no defrost. when im holding the button down, it will defrost, but im not gonna drive around in a stick shift during michigan winter trying to steer, shift, not hit semis, and hold down a little button to see out my back window.
I had a new radio put in by best buy. And had an aftermarket before this new one, but it worked just fine with that radio, and the wiring should not have changed with my new one. especially since i have used the top before with the new radio with no problems.
That definitely sounds like a short. If this started happening after the radio was installed, more likely than not, it's because they either spliced into the wrong wire or they nicked or cut the wire insulation, causing the short. You can look for yourself, just start at the defroster switch, and trace the wiring as far as you can go. Then do the same for the radio wiring. Somewhere along the line, you'll find the problem. Or take it back to Best Buy and make them fix the problem. I would advise caution on that though, as they can install a stereo, but that doesnt make them experts on automotive wiring. Best bet if you dont want to do it yourself, take the Jeep to a good garage or a dealer, have them find the problem, and if it turns out Best Buy caused it, take the bill for the repair and let them pay it.
