Clean your throttle body - it's a 5 minute job - two 10mm bolts (maybe 8mm), some card cleaner, and a rag.

Stalling can be caused by any number of problems, but assuming you take good care of your car and have good spark plugs and wires and there are no deteriorated vacuum hoses leaking, a good bet is that you need to clean your air intake and fuel injectors. Aside from taking it apart and cleaning them manually, you may find that a good does or two of injector cleaner, either sea foam or STP may do the trick without a lot of expense. It may at least tide you over for a year or so.

The ingine stalls when stopping or driving. can it be the ignition starter

Ignition and starter are two different things.
It could be something in the ignition system or the fuel system.
You would need to find out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors when the engine dies.
If the check engine light is on when the engine is running you should have the computer scanned for trouble codes.

WHY DOES MY 1997 DODGE STRATUS STALLS

if the battery light is on you still have a fault in the charging system, you need to test your alternator, with the car running to ensure its charging 14v, and id charge the battry up manually to see if it's holding a charge.
you could have a broken wire problem, this could prevent the car from charging, but id test both thos eitem to make sure they work first.

1997 Geo Metro Stalling

After driving for a while and the engine becomes hot, when you park the car for a while, does this "for a while" mean enough time for the engine to cool down or not?

The reason why this is important is because an engine can stall for a number of reasons, and finding out the conditions of its stalling obviously helps narrow down the cause of the stall.

If it stalls, you say, when the engine cools down after being parked for a while, this handy diagnostic article will help assess the cause of your problem:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_Cold.htm

If it stalls again, like you said, after warming up and driving for a bit, the ambient temperature may be too as well as the engine itself, which then you should be inclinde to read this diagnostic article:
http://yourhandymanzone.com/Your_Handyman_Zone_How_To_Pages_Vehicle_Car_Zone_Cars_Trucks_Vans_Engine_System_Engine_Stalls_When_Hot.htm

You may very well be right its due to fuel starvation, particularly as to the malfunctioning of the EGR, as noted in the article.

I'm sure these articles will provide you with great insight.
Good luck!
