Hi,

This is a common issue on these Models.

If the ECT (engine collant temp )sensor is bad. The ECM (engine control module) will cause a fail safe condiotion. Which will cause the cooling fans to stay on. The ECT is on the pass rear of the intake manifold, below the IAC motor (Idle air control). I just had to replace the one on my subaru their about $24.00. The speedo may be the shaft in the adpter on the trans mission sheared (Hope for that) Or the gear on the front diff is worn out.

If that does not work, then :-

if you want to check the ECM you will need to look under the dash to the left of the steering colum. For a green one pin connector. After you find bout sides of this connector (D- check is what it is called) connect them. Now turn the key to the on position (key on engine off) you should start hearing some clicking. The ECM will operate everthing it controls. Each solenoid should click and the fans should run at each speed (slow then med then high). Just to let you know Subaru builds very good ECM's and has very few problems with them. If you disconnect the ECT sensor on a good vehicle it will cause the cooling fan to stay on.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Do accept the solution, if 100% satisfied from my service!!

Where is the fan switch on a 1999 Honda CR-V EX

Facing the engine bay, there is a multiple wire connector down near chassie, some time corrosion get in the terminals. with a test light and a safety pin stick it in both sides of all wires ,one wire color at a time ( or find what color wire the FAN uses) ie Car side of white/blue wire and see if the ENGINE side of same wire reads the same volts. If CAR side of the connector reads 12.5 volts and ENGINE side reads Zero you got it. with a short piece of wire JUMP over that connector with pins on each side, the ENGINE side when U touch pin and see if FAN now works. permanently connect wire. works for me

Does the a/c and radiator fan work together?

The answer to your question is yes every time you turn on the A/C your fan should come on if its an electric fan. If it was working before you did all that work to it and then after you put it all together and it doesn't work anymore sounds like to me you moved something or did something to cause this. Unplug your fan and turn your A/C on and check for voltage at the connector if there is voltage then your fan is toast if there is no voltage you will need to trace it back probably to a relay or fuse let me know how it goes.

Troulbleshooting radiator fans

try hitting radiator fan motor with hammer (not extremely hard, just rap on it a few times) with the engine running and ac on. if the fan comes on the motor is bad. if that dont work it must be tested for power and ground supplied to the fan from relay (power is supplied from the relay). does the ac compressor come on? is it overheating? the fan is controlled by the powertrain control module and a scantool would be needed to see if the module is turning the fan on.

How can i troubleshoot engine over heating

If the Fan is not working, check the radiator fan belt, (in some cars like Benz s500 yr 2000, it has it's own belt for sure), it might have been broken , check the fuse also, take your time to look on the connecting wires to make sure none is cut, that must solve the problem, your radiator must fan must be working.

Fuel line burst causing fire ever since car keeps over heating and now its blown the head help please!!! I can fix the head but need any ideas on whym its overheating checked the thermostat it fine no...

Check that the fan is working properly, whether it is electric or a belt driven fan. A car will overheat if the fan doesn't function as originally designed.

What is the fan in front of the radiator for? My 1996 corollas fan does not work, do i need to pull the radiator to replace it?

that fan is to help cool radiator when needed although it doesn't usually turn on until the car coolant temperature is around 200-220 degrees depending on where u live this time of year the coolant may never get that warm to need the fan to come on
as far as having to remove the radiator you might have to remove radiator but usually u can just remove radiator mounts and tilt the radiator forward enough to allow fan to come out

Hi,must of the time when fans stop working is because a fuse or a fan relay is burned ,it is also posible that the fan motor also burn out, there is a temperature switch at the cilinder head that can go bad and the fan will not go on. this should do it .....
